Hey Captain! Now that you’ve got the Jolly Roger fluttering in the wind over your ship, you’re ready to rove the seas, take on merchant ships loaded with booty and storm formidable fortresses. Set sail and get your hands on all those legendary treasures that are just waiting for the picking!
When we created Tempest, we focused on the most thrilling part of pirate life – sea battles.
As you navigate the dangerous waters of the game you won’t just catch up with merchants, but you will encounter fellow pirates, creepy followers of a mysterious cult and terrible mythical monsters: Kraken, Leviathan and other infamous creatures.
Your ship – the pride and joy of any freebooter – can be customized in many ways. You are free to change almost everything – from the color of your flag and sails to the ship’s hull and figurehead.
Of course, there are plenty of weapons to choose from for every battle, including cannons, mortars, flame throwers and so on. Also there are special tools ready to help you to rig the ship for any purpose. However, you can win the most valuable artifacts only by finishing the multilevel quests called “legends”.
Free roam: Limitless sailing in real time - use Global Map only if you want to!
Pirate cooperation: Share the world of Tempest between you and your friends. Pirate, trade and do quests together, or declare war to each other and watch the ocean burn!
Seafarer’s adventures: Buy ships, upgrade your ships, decorate your ships!
Tempest is a blast. The tutorial is minimal and there's no documentation but the core game play is intuitive enough and there are many YouTube videos to help learn the details. Once you do, it's great looking and fun to explore and accept missions. Fully recommended.
Runs flawlessly on Ubuntu 22.04 under Wine.
Run amok on the high seas. Sink ships or board them. Grab the loot and carry on.
The sailing and cannon fire are fun, but it gets old. The upgrades are a little broken. There's no way I should be able to get a battleship/dreadnaught to turn faster than a frigate or outrun a schooner.
The ship boarding is janky. The ships are always aligned the same way, no matter how you pulled alongside. The controls have a delay and can be sticky - it's no fun to run up to an enemy, try to swipe at them with your sword, but your character's still running and flies on past. If you hit someone with your sword, you can't finish them off, you have to wait for them to get back on their feet and then you can try and swing at them again, but now they're ready and they parry you.
Enjoy it for a while, but once you wear out you probably won't ever play it again.
It's well composed, it's not grindy, it's gratifying whether burning through my tasks, or just sailin the seas! Huge favorite this game, definitely. Lastly the physics on the seas are addictive and it's nice to sail. I wouldn't say one would finish this game off too quickly either. 101% recommend to all my different gamer friends.
Usually I write review only when I'm completely satifished by the game, or it is a classic that can be loved with the "legendary" bugs. The so called instant five-star games. Now I feel bad for a little because I rate this game 4 star only.
Tempest is an action sailing game (whoo a new genre!). You are the captain, and you have to menage your ship to survive. This game follows the path of the many classic RPGs where everything depends on everything. You, the captain only gives some bonus to your ship, the main stats however comes from the equipments. Cannons, hull, sail, as well different cannonballs for different purposes. There are equipable addons for the equipments, special weapons, and tools for support. Also there are your crew. The crew gives the efficiency of your ship. Even with the best possible equipment you're nothing without the right crew setup. There are also special crew members that boost the specific efficiency with some additional stat bonus.
The crew also important when you want to board a hostile ship. Yes, you can capture enemy ships for seilling, using, or just using its material to repair yourself. Pretty nasty option to keep you entertaining.
And now the main question, where the game lose that one star. The multiplayer. The store page states it has multiplayer, as well the developer himself talk about it (and I even seen it working in the Steam version), but actually there is no multiplayer. Can't connect to the Steam server or I don't know. Even worse there is no other option for multiplayer. The game completely lacks every kind of LAN options. It is just shame for such a promising game.
