In a cold, dark future dominated by mega-corporations, a small lonely planet on the edge of habitable space is the site of a shadowy research facility specializing in necrotic tissue reactivation. You are a scientist who has suddenly awoken to the realization that you are the lone survivor. The rest of the facility’s personnel have all been killed – micro-chipped and reactivated as combatants by the facility’s central processing AI.

Teleglitch: Die More Edition is a roguelike top-down shooter with retro pixel graphics. Featuring procedurally generated maps that change with each play through, you will never experience the same facility twice. Clutch your gun, walk down the dark corridors and enter each new room hoping those last few rounds of ammunition will be enough. Feel the anxiety, the paranoia and the sheer terror of Teleglitch.

An underappreciated roguelite classic

Teleglitch is a sci-fi (semi-survival) horror top-down shooter roguelite wherein success hinges on efficient arsenal and ammunition management, as supplemented by a reasonably sized pool of crafting materials that act as both a resource for ad-hoc utility item generation and the player's tech/weapons advancement tree. While Teleglitch's shooting doesn't necessarily innovate, it's a highly polished blend of pressures designed to force players to make the most of their armaments. Enemy movement and attack patterns, as well as health/armor values and general threat levels, will inevitably dictate that the least expensive solution to a problem may not be the safest, culminating in the sort of risk/reward analysis that forms the hallmark of roguelite design. Players will frequently be thrust into greater danger than anticipated, and only those who maintain composure will escape encounters with the resources necessary for later survival. The crafting mechanic exists perfectly in the Goldilocks zone of "not so many materials that crafting item worth is expressible only in the abstract, not so few that no meaningful decisions or dilemmas can arise in how they should be used." In the vacuum of perfect play there are optimal crafting choices to be made, but things don't always go to plan, and that's when you'll be forced to compromise and improvise. While Teleglitch forces players to make the most of what they're given, what they will be given is for the most part deterministic and reliable. Every level will always contain a particular set of items, enabling players to make informed decisions about what will be available, where, and when. The deterministic item pool works in concert with an area progression system that allows players to choose between one of two available levels at every level juncture, further encouraging its "what do I have, what do I need, what can I survive?" considerations based on what each of the levels contains. Worth it, even at full price.

difficult, gameplay- and visual-wise

it's hard to tell, if the game would be easier, with reasonable graphics. there are some games, that come with AAA+ graphics and are dull, others with only text are well written and you're completely into it. Teleglitch is different. Difficult, no chance of keeping upgrades to make it easier: Roguelike at it's best. If you know and like this genre, as well as the horror setting, then Teleglitch can keep you entertained for quite some time. I have mixed feelings. spending free time, to get my ass beaten, that just doesn't feel like joy. I don't like the extreme competition. Gaming for me is like enjoying a book or a tv show. if I get murdered and have to "see" the same things over and over again, i feel like, I'm running around in circles, no progress.

Soul destroyer that loves you

I've owned this game on Steam for a while, and let tell you something confidentially: I've never made it past the fourth level. I am not bad at games (okay, I *might* be bad at games), but this one kicks my @$$ all over the place. It is brutal, unforgiving,... and a sci-fi horror masterpiece. It's been called "top-down Doom" in other reviews, but I have to disagree: Doom is a shooter; Teleglitch is a sci-fi horror masterpiece! Gameplay-wise, it's a twinstick roguelike (A real roguelike this time: you die, you lose everything. No between-run upgrades for you, my dear.) with crafting, resource management, and (the star of the game) nerve-shattering atmoshere. Everything from the sound design to the color palette is meant to eat at your soul as you play the lone survivor of a we-played-God-and-naturally-everything-went-wrong scenario, conserving ammo and medicine while trying to survive encounters with the indescribable. And do you know how fast the indescribable can move? Very fast, it turns out. Certainly faster than you. You will panic. You will make a terrible mistake. You will die. And then you will get up and try again because there really is nothing else like this game out there. Others have tried the top-down survivial horror thing (and some have succeeded; give Darkwood a shot), but there is NOTHING out there quite like this. Only this game could get away with chipping at your psyche little by little and then kicking you in the face and taking everything from you like it does because only this game is as conceptually inspired and lovingly crafted enough for you to allow it to happen again and again. I don't know if this game is even winnable, okay? I certainly understand that it's not going to be for everyone. But it *is*...how you say... A SCI-FI HORROR MASTERPIECE! Worth a look.

Rough on the eyes but solid gameplay

I don't know what made them go THIS simple with the graphics. Reading is rough when every letter is 5 pixels. And seeing things can be tricky at times because of it, and the browny greenish color pallete doesn't help. That aside though, this is a surprisingly well made game from a gameplay perspective. It's super smooth and viceral. The gameplay has a certain loose feel to it while all weapons feel like they have a lot of weight behind them due to nifty little visual effects, solid sound design, and the way the camera moves along with the gameplay. I really can't stress enough how FLUID the gameplay is and how well it feels. The crafting system is simple and easy to understand yet is more complex than it seems at first glance. The survival aspect is definitely there with permadeath, and every playthrough is fresh due to AI-generated levels. A surprsing game from Paradox to be sure, but not unwelcome.

Liero aesthetic in top down survival RL

What the title says. The color palette, pixel art and even the font is unmistakable from that Finnish freeware game called Liero, which was a battle of two worms fighting against the other with weapons and ninja rope. That dragged me into. If Liero was called Quake Arena 2D, this one is the Doom 3 top down. The permadeath is hard to value because you get the players divided: you are either a RL lover or you don't see the point in a shooter game which is already hard to beat. Definitely it is one of a kind despite the overused story of a military base surrounded by the warp and monsters.
