It's not fun, the characters' movements are also very rigid, all interactions are static poses, and then a lot of doors that need to be collected by two items to unlock. There is indeed no dialogue voice. The core gameplay of the game is to walk around, watch, jump and collect. In less than an hour, I don't have the patience to play anymore.
It's beautiful, and seems carefully crafted (not cheaply made). The gameplay and story style is not to everyone's taste, but I absolutely love it. It's good for people who like to stop and look around, and who enjoy atmospheric environments and music. The platforming is not too challenging but not too boring either. Make sure you read the notes which are scattered around the game, and explore.
Are you tire of games being all abount shooting or bashing someone in the head?
Do you want to sit back and relax abit?
Wanna jump around, collecting stuff in creative ways and to look at the most adorable cat-ish creatures since the ones from Monster Hunter World?
Then this is your game!
The game is made by a single person, so it has it rough edges. Even so, this game shines really well! The gameplay is simple and relaxing, it's not complicated and has no need to send a teenager to kill god or something like that.
It's a simple platformer based on collecting stuff, with puzzles (at first they are quite simple) and a lot of personallity!
The level design is beautiful, the music is catchy and even if there's not many songs to go around they all are quite the jam!
If you wanna suport a small developer who has lots of love for their creation and keeps on updating the game, if you wanna have a game where you can turn your brain on "low consumption" mode for a while then this is your game!
tl;dr: This is a simple, small but great game! I know my games and this one has a place in my heart!
This game is very easy to pick-up-and-play, and kept my attention until I finished it (100%ed it) over the course of a weekend (3 days), and totally appeals to the old-school 3D platformer OG in me.
If all you want to do is jump around and collect stuff (and I did), this game DELIVERS: There are several dozen collectibles for each of the 3 towns/districts, 244 Lanterns (the game’s main collectible) to be precise.
Instead of the same super generic biomes (grasslands, mountains, ocean, desert, jungles, swamp, volcanoes, glaciers, etc.), the game’s world is VERY Asian-styled, and centers around 3 different towns/districts of the same town, and most of the collectibles are found in those locales themselves, and feels very “Open World,” as the kids like to say these days.
The temple “missions” are VERY linear, but I didn’t mind them - they each have some sort of gimmick to work around (moving platforms, falling platforms, disappearing platforms, jump pads, etc.) and only comprise a minority of the game’s content.
The soundtrack is very melodic and memorable, and wonderful to listen to inside and outside of the game; honestly, I heard things that reminded me of the soundtracks to Final Fantasy X, End of Eternity/Resonance of Fate, and Masashi Hamauzu’s style in general, just to name a few.
No, there’s NOT much story to the game, but you’re here to JUMP AROUND AND COLLECT THINGS, not to listen to someone else’s unoriginal, hackneyed bastardization of real world history and mythology because they’re trying to APPEASE a crowd of people who expect epic plotlines in EVERY stinkin’ game they play.
It’s a game you get to PLAY, NOT WATCH OR READ, let alone have to dick around in a bunch of cut scenes, tutorials or menu screens!
Surprised at the negative reviews; they’re just grasping at straws trying to find things to complain about, far as I’m concerned.
I was looking for something relaxing to play so TASOMACHI looked like a good fit, but there is just nothing to do or see in the game than jumping around and collecting lanterns:
No comments from the protaginist
No interesting npcs to talk to
No cool cutscenes or scripted events
No worthwhile secrets to discover
No elaborat lore pieces
Very limited character customization and progression
It might keep your 6year old busy for a while, but that's about it.
