As a lover of big rpgs with lots of choices, Arthurian romances, and modern fantasy, I really loved this game. The style blends elements of Elder Scrolls, Dark Souls, and H.R. Giger. The reworking of Arthurian legend is weird, dark, and fascinating. The choices on how to build your character, who to side with in various quests and conflicts, the number of endings, the sheer vast amount of exploration, are all wonderful. I binge played this for 64 hours, doing all the side quests I could find (without a 100% completion guide, but looking up a couple things here and there), and got the best ending. My only regret is that now it's over, and I wish I could experience more in this world. Thank you to the devs for an excellent gaming experience; I really hope they do more games like this in the future.
A game that plays like Skyrim set in a dark King Arthur setting with art design that takes its cues more from Dark Souls than either. All in all, love it.
I currently have the Steam version but will buy the gog version closer to release because I try not to have steam DRM titles.
That said, this game is definetly better than Skyrim, even in this early stage.
The quests are more engaging and have more story... some have humor. It's not just " go here and fetch this" crap which is mostly what Elder Scrolls titles do. The combat is simplstic, but better for a 1st person perspective game.
As for bugs, I really only encountered a few. Some quests bug out (which is to be expected for early access), and sometimes the quest markers on the map dissapear until restarting the game... but also sometimes simply zoning in / out of and interior will restore them. Every once in a great while an enemy would fall through the world... but it didn't happen very often.
That said... nothing GAME STOPPING for me.
I ran this on MAX graphics with no hitches, crashes or freezes....but I have a 13700k, 64GB RAM, and a GTX 4070 Ti Super. Are the graphics dated? Meh... not for an indie developer. I think they are quite satisfactory (although character creation is super limited at this time) and the art style fits. But this isn't a AAA studio, so don't expect Black Myth: Wukong level graphics.
However, my windows installation is very clean and optimised (Spyware disabled, uneccessary services disabled, no bloatware, no cloud services access, etc, etc.)
Folks that are having difficulties in ANY game should look for built-in Windows GARBAGE (or OEM added bloat applications) that are running, before they claim something is super buggy, performing poorly, and / or crashing all the time. Windows has been esh!tified to the max, and I fear only more is to come with this co-pilot crap. I run Arch Linux for everything else, including internet surfing, becasue Windows just plain sucks more than ever.
