Pure atmosphere

The IDEA of this game is brilliant. Control terminator-like cyborgs and use incredible weapons to wreck havoc. Gather an army of minions. Blow shit up. Gun down anyone and anything that gets in your way. Life is cheap. Including yours. There is a level of haunting truth to the ideas in this game which parellel our own reality. The game revels in it's own insanity while telling a cautionary tale. Beware the corporation. Beware indeed. Graphically it was pretty bad. I don't understand some of the decisions bullfrog made but it could have looked a LOT better, even for it's time. Taking out ammo and simply having the weapons recharge was a bad decision in my opinion. The story was cool as fuck. It really felt like this amazingly developed sci-fi world and drew you in. And the atmosphere. Oh, the atmosphere. A massive improvement over it's predecessor, it really was a living breathing urban hell. In a beautiful kind of way. So dark and sterile. And the music. Just brilliant. And who could forget the sound effects. An agent uttering the words "electron mace" when clicking on it's weapon. Little touches like that gave the game some lasting endearing qualities. This game gets MAJOR props for potential. But potential doesn't make a game. Syndicate Wars will forever go down as one of the coolest ideas, most atmospheric cyberpunk experiences ever with some major flaws that, if fixed, could've made the game one of the greatest of all time.

Sort of two and a half D I guess

I played this game a lot, being a great fan of Syndicate. I loved the UI, Also, you were again able to do lots of research on your agents as well as their weapons. Installing all parts in your agent was amazing: you got yourself a terminator like android, that would actually boot up and start 'breathing'. There were two problems that really annoyed the heck out of me. The first was that sometimes you'd shoot an opponent, but simply not 'hit'. The flamethrower was especially susceptible to this bug(?). The second was that for some reason your weapons' energy would magically deplete when you needed it most. Both these issues were the definitive obstacle: I never completed the game :(

a trip down memory lane

what a great game this is i had the pleasure of owning this game for the ps1 and one of the best games for the ps1 in my opinion i got this game a few months ago and i can say that its so much better than the ps1 version if you dont have this game then get it its a great game and deserves to be part of anyones collection

A cyberpunk classic

I bought Syndicate Wars the moment it was first released and it was a game which holds the honour of actually being better than Syndicate was, and that wasn't a bad game in itself! A true cyberpunk game which captures a real sense of a dystopian future with it's graphics and Bladerunner style music. Throw into that a weird cult and you have a classic game. There are game mechanics in it which stand out, such as doing a bank job and running from the police, or gaining a little extra back-up by controlling passers-by who'll then pick up any gun laying around and follow you. It's a game you'll love playing, and a game that deserves to be on GoG.
