Syndicate Plus™

This is one of the best strategy games they ever made. The need to remake this in HD. :)

For 1993 this game is pretty awesome, with each mission being open world, driving, and police to look out for its right up my alley for a classic game. Went in totally blind and it was worth it.

This game has got very little depth to it. Some missions will require a little bit of thought but, most just require you to wait for the enemy agents to charge you while you mow them all down. There really is no tactical element to this game even if the mission briefings would have you believe otherwise. I do love the look and atmosphere of the game. The cities really do have a dystopian future feel and, especially considering when this was released, feel very alive with all the police and civilians moving around. You can have some fun with this and on a technical level it works exactly how it should but it gets repetitive very quickly. worth buying on sale if only to experience what is considered a historically significant game. The American Revolt expansion is absolutely ridiculous. Whoever made it seems to have spent about 10 minutes just making it ridiculously hard and nothing much else. Most of the missions (Possibly all) are played on the same maps as the original American missions, just with different scenarios. The enemy agents have had their speed and accuracy upped to ridiculous levels and everyone, including police and guards, has top of the range weaponry including lasers and gauss guns. I kind of enjoyed it just for the ridiculous challenge and it's also quite funny to see rockets firing off from everywhere across the map while squads of agents run around on fire and screaming. To give you an idea of the difficulty, one of the first available missions (Alaska) is failed in around 20 seconds if you don't act. Not for most people, but if you like a challenge, this is it.

If I remember correctly, I could call Syndicate a mix of first GTA and first X-Com games. You can steal vehicles, control up to 4 agents at once, control population mind, explode buildings, shoot people, etc. Also research new weapons and improve your cyborg agents; you have a world map and have to "conquer" territories (after finishing each mission). Its possible to increase speed, accuracy, awareness, etc using "drugs or speed ups", but they run out if used too much, like stamina. Basically a really good game, good atmosphere, music, sound effects. Use spies in a futuristic world. Its aged pretty well also. Without any doubt, a must buy.

Extensive reviewing isn't really needed, since everyone knows what they're getting here. Just a couple of things to point out - this seems to be missing the 'American Revolt' expansion, which will be a let-down for the hardcore fans. Also, while most of the game has aged well, one thing really irks me - your team say the same phrase every time you click the mouse. Every freakin' time. You'll be gnashing your teeth and cringing within 5 minutes. Turn the sound off and your sanity will return and there's much enjoyment to be had - moreso than in the sequel, which looks good at first glance but is ultimately let down by bizarrely incompetent design decisions.
