Didn't Take Long...

... To realise, that this game is something I really enjoy already and will continue to do so. I've played literally hundreds of racing games over the years, many different styles, top-down, isometric, 3D, sims, arcade racers. This took just a few minutes to grab me by the throat and I KNEW I loved it :-D. Simple controls, that don't overcomplicate things and keep the racing fun, as it should be. I'm not a fan of some racing games which take the fun out of the racing, by throwing too much at you, with so many buttons to remember, it makes your head spin. Keep it simple, keep it fun, like the good old days of racing games. If you remember how racing used to be, the sheer enjoyment of it all, the satisfaction you got from winning a race after you got the lap just right,, then I suspect you'll thoroughly enjoy this. A heck of a lot of fun, at a price that is well worth paying in my opinion :-).

Retro inspired and future-proof

There's something constant in every generation of PlayStation consoles and that is a Gran Turismo game and while there's many type of racing games no one is as unique as Sony's flagship. Super Woden GP 2 borrows some of the elements of Sony's game to do a blueprint: mainly the asthetics of the menu that would be easily recognizable and the progression system when it comes to races and making money, you'll not find yourself limited by licenses though, the only limit here is you money and your capacity to be able to control the cars you're racing. This elements work well, are intuitive and encourages replayability, you will find youself repeating completed championships to make more money and to test different cars. When it comes to gameplay, you will find an isometric perspective evoking arcade racers from the early 90s, you don't have a damage model but you have a health bar so while no performance will be impacted you can totaled the car. The handling while far from being sim-like, it feels precise and you can see where you could find more performance to make a better lap. Corner drifiting is something you can't avoid, but despite personally not liking it on other games, here feels at home and fun to perfect it. Super Woden GP 2 clearly is something you should keep an eye out if you like Racing games, it takes good inspiration from the past to make something that works now and will surely work in the future, while it doesn't try anything new and racing games do need some new ideas, this combination of ideas is indeed new and I fully recommend it!

Okayish top-down racer

This seemed like it might scratch the same itch as Power Drive did. When I heard about the large amount of cars to collect, I was pretty much sold. Too bad then that, though the game looks a bit like Power Drive, it is far less arcadey, managing to feel heavy and sluggish all the time. It goes for a more realistic simulation field while also playing from a view much less consistent with simulations. in itself I would've awarded the game a 4 star rating. But then you hit the progression/menus. No licensed cars, instead you have a bunch of fictitious companies each with their roster of cars to buy. That would be fine enough, but then you find that almost all races require you to have selected the correct vehicle before starting, no guides or helpers other than a suggested car list. I think I may have spent more time navigating back and forth from trying to launch a race, to the garage to see if I could find a car that was allowed, only to have forgotten some of the list of allowed cars, going back forth, installing and uninstalling parts to meet maximum HP limits. Combined with replaying previous challenges in order to scrounge up enough cash to afford a car or upgrades to be anywhere near competetive in the next race. In short. Game looks like a good time. Plays like an okay time, but not what I expected, and is bogged down with menu friction and expectation of OCD car management that it's pretty much killed the enjoyment I might have found. There's an okay game here. It just doesn't want you to play it.

Modern game with a great retro vibe

When I played with toy cars as a kid, this is what I imagined it was like. With tons of cars and tracks to race, and various game modes, there is a lot to explore here. It has the look and feel of retro game with smooth performance and options galore. The racing is pretty standard arrows control, with a momentum transfer upon contact with other cars, and accelration in slipstream. The only issue so far has been trying to get the correct car for the particular races, its not always clear what cars are eligible at first. I recommend this game for casual racing, great vibe and tons of modes.

Game made with love

VOIR AVIS EN FRANCAIS PLUS BAS EN: A little marvel that brings back memories of “Grand Tourismo”. It feels like a tribute to the first games of the famous franchise. The career mode looks very complete, with normal races, rallies and endurance races. Hundreds of cars to unlock and buy. Varied circuits. Nice soundtrack. Visually, the game is rather pretty, with the added bonus of being able to add various filters to give it a more or less antique look. In short, I highly recommend this game. =) FR: Une petite merveille qui rappelle les souvenirs de « Grand Tourismo ». On a l'impression d'un hommage aux premiers jeux de la célèbre franchise. Le mode carrière semble très complet, avec des courses normales, des rallye et des courses d'endurance. Des centaines de voitures à débloquer et à acheter. Des circuits variés. Une bande son agréable. Visuellement, le jeu est plutôt joli, avec en prime la possibilité d'ajouter divers filtres pour donner un aspect plus ou moins ancien En bref, je recommande vivement ce jeu. =)
