Stronghold Crusader HD

This game would be a bargain at twice the price. Interesting units, varied maps well considered resource management. The main complaint I've had is that this one really sucks down the hours. Definitely a game that I'd recommend to the solid RTS fan.

Real Time Strategy, Real Time Tactics, City Building, and you might learn a bit of medieval history too. "Stronghold: Crusader" will have you conquering the Holy Lands, repeling the infidel, and kicking ass all the while. But mind the economics, because there's more logistics than just clicking on a base and spawning a soldier. Put your peasantry to work, feed them, tax them, and THEN you can send them off to battle your enemies.

I got very absorbed in this game in spite of some annoyances. The worst thing is that you can't see what's happening on the edges of the field. The field is far too small for my taste. Also the pace of the game is too fast. On the other hand, the graphics are really lots of fun and the over the top voice acting makes it that much more enjoyable. The "dead cow catapult" launches are hilarious. In spite of its simplicity it's pretty challenging because you have to keep up with your enemies or they will move in, destroy your castle, and overwhelm you. Good for a few hours of fun when you have nothing better to do.

For the price this is a good game. It is challenging and the AI isn't too bad. In fact, some of the levels are very difficult to get past. However, after a while I just found the game to be repetitive. I played for a while and liked it, but when I was done, I didn't have a great desire to go back. For a low priced game, it is worth it, but I am glad I didn't buy it new.

This has to be the single most enjoyable strategy game I've played in a long time. Stronghold: Crusader seamlessly blends medieval economy infrastructure and castle building with spectacular desert battles and challenging siege warfare. Excellent for a wonderful single player experience, but this game really shines when you play multiplayer with friends. Smash your opponents with brute force using large armies and bold battlefield tactics, or use tact, clever negotiation and a strong economy to ensure victory.
