Remember, hesitation is deadly. Because in the end, it's all about who's the last one left standing.
I really mean this port is unplayable, it just keeps instantly crashing everytime I try to run it on Windows 10, even though it says it is compatible. Sad, this game is what made me come to GOG.
Running the game can cause Explorer and other programs to freeze if I don't open it in just the right way, which I don't always remember. While the game is running, I can't use certain shortcuts, even ones built into Windows and in other programs. If I'm unable to kill it, I need to reboot my computer. (It might be because of Direct Play, but I don't know much about that.) It's a trap installed on my computer. I should have gotten a refund when I first noticed the problem, but I thought I could just kill ALPHA2.EXE. This time, ALPHA2.EXE didn't even start, and I managed to freeze everything else I could still access, so I had to reboot.
When the game does run, it's slow, or becomes slow as time goes on. That might be solvable through tech support, but the trap can't be written off as a tech support issue.
The steps:
1. Have Task Manager in the foreground and opened to "Details", prepared to kill.
2. Do NOT open from GOG Galaxy. Run ALPHA2.EXE directly.
3. Do not click or switch windows until the game is loaded.
I could not figure out the controls for this game. The settings menu doesn't even tell you what all the commands equate to in the keyboard. Don't even think about using a controller. If you do so know that the directional buttons are automatically mapped to the left thumb stick with no in-game way of remapping. If you've ever tried to play a fighting game with a thumb stick, you probably know that's a big issue.
That and other reasons made me return this quite inaccessible game for modern standards.
Very cheap port. Can't Alt-Tab out, Full screen only, only recognizes my gamepad's analog stick (not dpad)(Xbox controller), not all gamepad buttons are useable. First time I tried to run the game, it crashed, but now it works. But other than all that, you can play SF A2. I wouldn't buy it unless it's on sale.
I was a little bit concerned because I'm using a newer computer a Windows 11 computer. I thought I was going to run into compatibility issues. The game works fine but the frame rate is not right. The controls work fine too. It has a good amount of difficulty. Not too hard to be cheap and not too easy to be a pushover. Ultimately if you like Street fighter. You be right at home.
