Just not that much content
I bought after seeing all the positive steam reviews, saying it really added a lot to the game and was the first dlc "worth it" in years. To me, it was underwhelming. It felt like an update to "Synthetic Dawn" more than anything. Here's what you get: Three new origins - One is a fast track from bio to synth. Another is a cyborg religion. And the gives you a free mini mineral producing megastructure at the cost of planet size. Two new early game megastructures - "Dyson Swarm", a precursor to the Dyson sphere giving a boost to a star's energy output. "Arc Forge" - turns all a systems "useless planets" into mineral/alloy producers. New Ending - They say it's a crisis, but it more felt like the science victory from the Civilization series. Research a bunch of high-science-cost projects, build a super computer you fuel with pops, build a super ship, and blip your species into another dimension. Other civs can get miffed, but won't do much. It's not what I'd call a crisis. But if you initiate it, you do get access to top tier fallen civ buildings. It felt cool, and I'm sure there are plenty of builds you can work into it. New Crisis - Cetana is an interesting crisis. She doesn't start out as hostile, and you can "befriend" her in the beginning for rewards, at the cost of furthering her situation. Once her situation is at 100%, the game is over. It's a big "prisoner's dilemma" / "Tragedy of the Commons" problem. I love it. Overall, it's not a bad DLC. But as the most expensive to date, I expected more. It definitely didn't revitalize my love for the Stellaris series.
