Up until the end it's fun, but I can't finish it. At the end, a race appears, I can beat every fleet they send at me, but they are producing so fast I can't even get close. Even though I lost only a few ships per battle, by the end they are still out producing me. Tried 3 times, deleting. A game this frustrating isn't worth playing. Waste of money.
I started a game a few weeks back and the constant updates have changed what I have built twice now. I had over 20 planets with clone vats, one update removed all of them, the next update, I can rebuild them but my game has been stunted because of this. I got the tech to build one class 3 Singularity, now this last update it is gone.
It makes the game so frustrating to play, This game takes weeks/months to complete one game and these constant changes has made this game intolerable, you are lucky to get one star at this time.
I like Paradox's grand strategy games for the most part and this one, along with CK2, is my favourite one. This game has excellent customization options, beautiful graphics (singularities, anyone?), superb early game with all the exploration and ancient secrets of the galaxy just begging to be discovered (and discover them you will), very nice tech tree (although not very well explained in -game), interesting and distinct choices, dormant ancient empires, megastructures, secret worlds and much, much more. Colonizing phase is good, conflict phase is just OK and when you play the game long enough, the end game crisis begins, and they are also excellent finale-type quests. Plus, the multiplayer in this game is fun too.
The bad: it's a Paradox Grand strategy game with all its flaws: complicated systems, super long time to play, pretty boring late game, generally becoming less excited as time goes by, predictible AI and conquest paths for most of the game. Plus, the biggest flaw for me is the amount of expansions Paradox made. First, its really confusing. Second, the price of the game is easily tripled when you include the expansions. Third, the game becomes really bloated when you install most of them.
Overall, I rate the base game as 8, and expanded by some (for the love of god, don't buy them all!) of the expansions to be about 9.
If you like sci fi and grand strategy this is for you. The dev team are constantly working on ways to make it better and are active with the community that play it. You might need to say goodbye to your social life however because this game keeps you drawn in for a long time! Buy it and enjoy.
