STAR WARS™ Republic Commando

Probably the most unique SW fps game ever, still holds up.

Republic Commando is a basic tactical shooter. You control a four man squad, give them basic commands like defending a position or set up sniper positions on locations designated by the game itself. Basic, but functional. The basic rifle requires very strict aiming with slender targets, but gameplay overall does the trick. The level design leaves something to be desired every now and then, but it's never frustrating. Sadly, the game does feel short, especially with the lack of environmental variety. The menus really aren't mouse friendly, so best to use your keyboard for those. Using a controller for the game is not unreasonable. Story is basic with Delta Squad sent off to high risk missions behind enemy lines during the Clone Wars. The emphasis is on the different personalities in the squad. You have the by the book tech expert, the quippy demolitions expert and the introvert sniper. The leader is the player's avatar, voiced by Jango Fett himself Temuera Morrison. The tonal shift compared to most other Star Wars games is apparent, but fits with the military setting. The writers do a good job getting the player invested in the team, rooting and trying their hardest to overcome overwhelming odds, with the occasional spectacle expected of Star Wars. If Disney ever gets its act together, they write a film using this game as a base. Leave the message out of it and you're good to go.

I have owned the CD version of this for years and not only is it the best FPS (First Person Shooter) for Star Wars, It's a very good shooter all around. I think it has good graphics even by today's standard, and has a great story. I only wish that they made a sequel to wrap up the story. You'll see what I mean when you play it.

Great Game!!! Complete and still entertaining if a little bit dated. Probably one of the last Really Good Star Wars Games made to this day. In this day and age of Monetization it's good to know GOG is around to provide Great Games, DRM Free just like the Good Old Days.

Many years ago I bought this game, shortly after it came out (2005). Since then I have repeatedly reinstalled and had a run through of it and has always been fun every time I did. This is one of the most unique Star Wars titles that we unfortunately wont see a sequel or a similar game in development. Ill head through the Pros and Cons The Pros: -Solid story. Very engaging plot that takes you through different settings and are well developed. -Every character in your squad, including yours, is engaging. They all have great personalities and are distinct. They all play a vital role and are not regular soldiers. -Your squad is capable of handling themselves, taking orders effectively, saving your skin as well as others competently. The AI is done well -Great enemy diversity that you come across, from droids, trandoshians to geonoshians to scavenger robots. Each have their own strengths and weaknesses. -A unique arsenal you can wield, as well as mounting turrets and other defensive weapons. -The missions are tense and can prove to be a challenge -Visually stunning to this day The Cons: -Rare AI frustrations -Could have had a little more weapon types. -Single player story only, lacking some custom missions that could provide replay-ability To sum it up, this is a one of a kind Star Wars games that stands out completely from the rest. The take on the FPS style squad based combat is executed perfectly and this will be a gem in your collection We can only hope a continuation of this series will be-fold in the future
