STAR WARS™: Knights of the Old Republic

Firstly, it DOES work on Windows 10, which I'll explain below my review. KOTOR is a classic you've no doubt heard of before, if you haven't had the opportunity to play. But "classic" doesn't even begin to do it justice. This game has so much effort put into its creation, and you can see that quite easily while playing. The replay value is very high, and you simply don't get this many hours of enjoyment from a single playthrough from very many games, especially not anymore. I played it as a teen when it came out, and it has aged magnificently. Controls are still intuitive and not clunky like many games of its time. Graphics are great, as far as I'm concerned. The overall quality of this game is unmatched, to this day. There's no reason you shouldn't play it. Unless you hate games with a story. As for its compatibility with modern systems: I purchased it from GOG about 1 year ago, and I had difficulty getting the resolution to work on my new laptop. Upon running, it only opened the menu screen in a tiny window. (Not an issue with the operating system, but rather with a newer screen resolution.) I contacted GOG Support and we tried countless things to get it to run in 1920x1080. The support team is fantastic, and they will do everything they can to help you get a game working on your machine. Ultimately, the fix was surprisingly simple: We forced the resolution I desired by opening up the configuration file (swkotor.ini) and adding under "Graphics Options" the following two lines (adjust to your own resolution if different): Width=1920 Height=1080 Then save. Then run the game. This fix may not work for everyone, but if your machine is on the newer side and you have a newer resolution for full screen, chances are you will have some sort of compatibility issue with old games that GOG worked on before these newer systems were even built. Don't get mad, just contact Support or do your own research and try to resolve your issue before giving up and demanding a refund.

The purchase on Gog is the peak of my attempts of running this, supposedly, marvelous game. After getting my hands on, and not being able to run, several other versions (the Kotor-Collection, including part 2 and the version available on steam) my hopes of finally playing were quite high, since I never had any problem with my other purchases here at GoG. I tried several guides on how to run the game on Windows 7, but none worked. The game still crashes after the intro videos. To conclude: I'm a little bit disappointed, since the known compatilibity issues on newer systems supposedly weren't solved before releasing here. I'd be glad to hear from anyone having the same difficulties or how to solve them, greetings, J.

When I saw Star Wars game on sale I was very excited. In particular Knights of the old Republic 1 and 2 because I'm a big BIOWARE fan. But unfortunately, They don't work on Windows 10 even if with GOG Galaxy. I hope this problem will be fixed as soon as possible

KotOR is definitely a game that every Star Wars fan should play. The atmosphere is great and manages to catch the feeling of Star Wars very nicely, especially planets Taris, Korriban and Kashyyk are very interesting and unique settings. The plot is well written and has some nice twists. Characters and dialogue are good and plentiful but many of the "dark side" dialogue options are really cheesy and kinda miss the essence of dark side (imagine Darth Vader stealing lunch money and kicking beggars for no particular reason) and the game doesn't really offer or support neutral approach as maxing light or dark side will give you essential benefits. When playing Light Side character (the way it's meant to be played really) the options are much more natural. This is pretty common problem with BioWare games although black and white morality fits a Star Wars game better than most. The gameplay and combat have their roots in D&D rules, it's tactical and interesting enough but it isn't the most smooth and refined system for a videogame. You will probably find yourself constantly running back and fort between free healer and the hard place or sitting on your hands in some corner waiting for the force(=mana) bar to recharge so you can heal another bit of your health bar before waiting some more. All in all KotOR has aged pretty well and it is the best cRPG with Star Wars setting. The occasional bits of mediocrity are easily offset by the overall great quality and some really memorable bits like [possible mild spoilers] infiltrating the Sith Academy as an acolyte or the Wookie family feuds and betrayals at Kashyyk.

I played the original game and it was amazing, I came and bought on GOG because I couldn't find the disc and it is now double the price I paid for. The GOG version seems to be really buggy and laggy as I was just told it was no longer responding. Please release some kind of patch for this.
