Whatever path Kyle Katarn chooses will change the face of the galaxy forever.
Star Wars™ Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II continues the story of Kyle Katarn, a young mercenary that successfully infiltrated the Empire, as he embarks on a quest to discover his past and learn the ways of the Jedi. In order to protect the galaxy Katarn must confront his father's murderers, led by the Dark Jedi Jerec, and stop them from obtaining the mysterious powers of a "Valley of the Jedi", a focal point for Jedi power and a Jedi burial ground. As Katarn embarks on his journey to defeat the Dark Jedi he must also shape his destiny, by choosing to follow either the light side, or the dark side.
Mysteries of the Sith
Kyle Katarn's adventures continue five years after the events in Dark Forces II. Invading Imperial forces advance upon a quiet Rebel outpost, interrupting Kyle's trianing of a brave new Jedi, Mara Jade. First introduced in Timothy Zahn's award-winning Star Wars™ novel, Heir to the Empire, Mara Jade combines her experiences as a smuggler and Emperor's Hand with her apprenticeship as a Jedi Knight. Mara's training will continue in the field as she makes use of four new weapons and five new Force™ powers to secure supplies for the New Republic. Meanwhile, Kyle pursues what he believes to be his destiny as he searches for secret treasures in an ancient Sith temple. Will you uncover the Mysteries of the Sith?
Oh the Memories, even after 18 Years i almost knew the exakt placements of the Enemys.
This was my first Star Wars Game (aktually Rebel Assault came first but i only played a few minutes)
it captures perfectly what makes the Star Wars Universe great.
The original Dark Forces was a decent, fun game, but this one is a tragic step backward. I really wanted to like this game, but two things just make it a chore to play. First are the controls, which just feel wonky compared to Dark Forces; aiming is way less accurate and the auto-aim feature barely helps.
Controls, though, those can be gotten used to. No, the real problem is this game is just not well optimized for Windows 8. It looks like shit on even high resolutions, and even blacks out the pause screen if it is set too high. Even worse, it crashes frequently (sometimes after a mere half-hour of gameplay or less) and the timing seems completely arbitrary. Sometimes it will run fine for an entire level, but then crash the moment you try to bring the pause screen up or even right after cutscenes.
As the gameplay and level design, aside from the control issues, are for the most part good (it also finally has the ability to manually save during levels, the lack of which was a huge problem with the original Dark Forces) it's a decent game WHEN it works, so let the buyer beware.
It's a great game, no doubt. But it's in a bad state. On Windows 10, it crashes every time I try to leave the in-game menu. I've had to play through the game using only quicksaving. Turning on hardware acceleration makes the screen go black. I had to get dgvoodoo to run it at higher resolutions.
If you can get past that, it's a 5/5.
What to say, really ? This is the 90s.
Story wise: Kyle, the protagonist, contracts chlamydia and ends up in the space clinic. Unable to pay his hospital bill, he suffers from a mid-life crisis and is forced to move back to his single father's home. There with the guidance of his P.E teacher's ghost Kyle picks up his old cheap knockoff lightsaber and uses it to engage in some intense RP sessions with the local 501st boys.
Gameplay: early on Kyle can't do jack sh*t asides from jumping and shooting so if you're not in the habit of playing old school shooters expect to "git gud" and save scum a lot.
Later, you get the limited edition Hasbro saber; which apparently stimulates your pituitary gland's midichlorian juices making it so you can instantly learn how to fire Ki blasts and use stem cell therapy to heal yourself.
Guns are always viable, except in sword fights.
Sword fights are bullshit and I love them. They can be solved by drunkenly side-straffing around and smacking your opponent's shins until they pass out from the pain. (It's a lot of fun.)
Sound: Yup, it's OG Star Wars alright, great orchestral themes here.
In terms of foley it's all fairly neat, Kyle apparently wears stilettos though judging by the sound he makes while running on tarmac.
(Ohh and the sound those alien assh*les make when lobbing thermal detonators still gives me nightmares. Great stuff.)
Compatibility: idk, it works ? It doesn't seem to like my graphics card that much.
Conclusion: this is just like my opinion, man.
P.S. Don't kill WeeGee. Unless you want the disembodied voice inside your head to leave you "on read" like your Ex does...
