I enjoyed this game because I am a fan of Age of Empires II and 90's RTS games. So if you are a fan as well I think this will feel 'right' in your hands. In my opinion the reason this game is not as popular as Age of Empires II is because the game was too complex, too many units, buildings, the mechanics were too complex and the visuals were kind of outdated for the time it was released. This is why I enjoyed the game at first, because there were many characters, the 'factions' felt very different and the attention to detail was amazing, but also the game was hard to learn, so I got bored after a while. However I think this game can be fun if you give it a chance.
It's actualy quite simple:
DO YOU LOVE *AGE OF EMPIRES 2* GAME? (X) YES - buy SW:GB!
( ) NO - don't buy SW:GB...
it's the same mechanics, the same graphic, the same style... in other words... IT'S AWESOME!
Great Game!!! Complete and still entertaining if a little bit dated. My old copy of the game hasn't run for years I'm so happy to have found it again. One of the best RTS's of its day. In this day and age of Monetization it's good to know GOG is around to provide Great Games, DRM Free just like the Good Old Days.
It was nice to play this game for a few hours, since I bought it in a sale. But after those hours it got kinda repetitive. The same thing happened when I started playing STAR WARS: Empire at War on STEAM. It's surely lengthy enough, with several campaigns ranging from the original trilogy to Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
I played this game a lot when I was a kid and it's exactly as I remember it! Even though it's essentially a Star Wars reskin of Age of Empires II, it's still very engaging to play for a game released way back in 2001! The mechanics aren't too dated and the old graphics are even endearing at this point.
Unfortunately the publishers haven't cared to optimise the game at all...I shouldn't be having graphics problems with this game but surprisingly I do, and there is no option to switch the game from fullscreen to windowed mode.
If that was fixed, I wouldn't have any other complaints.
