This is a really lazy port. It's not widescreen and as has the same color issue for Windows 7 it's always had. I hope GOG will do an update that will fix these problems.
this game was my childhood. and playing it again is amazing and fun. BUT, playing this game with the mod known as Expanding Fronts? its beyond amazing. get this game, get the mod, enjoy hours and hours of fun making scenerios and playing matches.
"Converted 20 Stormtroopers to the Light Side and sent them to fight an AT-AT. 1138/10, would troll Empire again."
As others here have said, this is basically Age of Empires 2 in the Star Wars universe. If you know what either of those things are, you need this game, simple as that. Age of Empires and Star Wars: it's the peanut butter & chocolate of '90s/'00s RTS. And after all these years where the only way to get it was to buy someone's scratched second-hand CD off of eBay or something, it's finally available for download on GOG.
You have no reason to not have this game. If you pass it up, you want to go home and rethink your life.
I bought retail copies of this game and the expansion back when they were initially released. I'm not a huge fan of RTS gameplay, but I do like to tinker with it once in a while and when I get that RTS itch, I usually pull these CDs out and blow the dust off. If you enjoyed Age of Empires II and you're a Star Wars fan, this game is for you. If they'd remaster this in HD like they did with Age of Empires II, that would be a wonderful thing. Otherwise, this game is still a fun RTS romp.
It's a Star Wars reskin of Age of Empires II, with a few things thrown in. Akin to a total conversion mod, albeit one that focuses mainly on the visual/audio side and adds very little in terms of gameplay to make it stand out. Age of Empires II is a classic RTS so if you like it and Star Wars you're in for a good time here, just don't expect something all that different gameplay wise.
It's not Command & Conquer or StarCraft, you're not getting different styles of play with each faction. They're all the same, bar visuals, and the odd unique unit. Just like Age of Empires, it's really just the visual appearance of your structures and units that changes.
And like that game, you are quite limited in strategy, since the only units that can really demolish buildings at a usable pace are Artillery (Trebuchets) and you only get them in Tech Tier 3 (Age 3) so it's a race to that tier and a race to siege weapons.
Did I mention, it's literally Age of Empires II lol
