Climb on, strap in, and experience the pure adrenaline-pumping excitement of the Podracing sequence from STAR WARS™: Episode I The Phantom Menace.
Take the controls as Anakin Skywalker, or any one of over 21 Podracers, and feel the full-force blast of two massive jet engines at simulated speeds of up to 600 mph. Rein in a turbine-driven chariot through 8 spectacular worlds. Negotiate through flaming methane lakes, Tusken Raider assaults, ant-gravity tunnels and much more in a pulse-punding, do-or-die fight to the finish where anyone will do anything to cross the finish line. How far will you go?
I never thought this could be possible, but it runs perfect on my windows 7 system. I was sceptical if this works, because I tried so many times to get my CD-Version of the game working, with no success, but the people of GOG did all patches and fixes on this version of the game, so everything is fine!
I even was able to play in 2560p together with my old sidewinder 2 joystick!
Thank you GOG!
I have had a love affair with this game since I first played it on N64. I don't think it's a stretch to say it's one of the best racing games ever made, and probably the best game to be based on the prequel trilogy (although there are some tight contenders). It is incredibly fast, high reflex, and requires great concentration. The pace is similar to modern Wipeout titles, and it doesn't hesitate to punish you for flying into a wall (usually by annihilating you in a fiery explosion, and then respawning you immediately), just like Motorstorm.
The sense of speed really is awesome and is unmatched by either the PS2 remake (Racer Revenge), or really any other racer. The sound design is also top notch, and really showcases the SFX and music used in The Phantom Menace. The levels are all unique and visually interesting, and Sebulba is still a dick. The game really does fantastic justice to the Pod Race in the movie.
The only major flaw with this game was that it was originally written for DirectX 6 with a 16 bit installer and launcher. This basically made it impossible to run on modern hardware with modern graphics drivers and operating systems, and not for lack of (many hours) of trying. GOG have gone and done a feat of absolute wizardry and modified the game for DirectX 9c, and it now runs flawlessly. Cheers GOG, you have made my year.
for a 20 year old game it still holds up today a very good raclng game and although setting up a controller was a bit of a pain it is only something you will have to do once (unless you change controllers) i played the n64 version and loved it it is great to relive those days but even if you didn't have this or you are too young to have got this first time round this is worth buying as a solid and cheap racer
Man, I remember getting this game along with sm64 and a brand new n64 back then! This game is just as fun and feels as fast it did back then. Love the sense of speed and rpg elements added to make the game more interesting and worth investing time into upgrading your pods.
Not gonna lie...I'm not even a Star Wars fan but this is one the best and underrated racing games period! Under $10 that GOG is offering it's a steal! I recommend everyone to support this game and buy it! Hey you never know, there could be a next gen star wars racer in the future.
I played hours, days, months of this game when I was a kid. I picked it up and it was like I never stopped playing. This game is still as perfect as I remember when I was 10 years old. Buy it! Buy it now!
