S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

I can see why there is so much hype for this game. This is honestly better than many games that have come out this year

I´m playing this in 2024 and while the mechanics of this game sometimes feel bit oldfashioned it´s still a lot of fun. The open worl is really dangerous and you always have to think twice before taking on an enemy. At least early in the game. The factions and quest system is also really cool.

From the janky bug ridden beginnings to its cult standing today. Back when it was such an unknown title with an unknown Eastern European developer I picked up this title purely due to the box art and the fact I was looking for more games like Half-Life as I was knee deep in its early mods like dark star. To my joyous surprise it gave me an entirely new world to explore. I recall I could barely underrstand the story back then and quite honestly it was told rather crudely. That did not matter though as the game world, gameplay, and the atmosphere gave me such a grand experience that even the inconvenient bugs no longer mattered to me as I kept wanting more. Evidently I was not the only one that felt that way about the game as it launched GSC into fame and spawned an entire series of games and now STALKER 2 Heart of Chornobyl is out. This is one gem that definitley proved making it worthy of being called a classic game.
