Randomness: The Game

I enjoy this game, and i feel masoquistic in this feeling because is almost impossible not to die a lot because of a lot of random, absurd, explosive, traps, that old shopkeeper, and relentless enemies. I love to hate this game, but i love more to see others exposed to this monster of RGN and see them trying to get to end. My tip: take a break off when get too frustrated look others experiences for shared strategies then come back. There is a limit of how much insanity you can take on.

Incredibly frustrating

Beaten the game numerous times, including reaching the Yama room. Still can't achieve consistent results during replays due to the game's reliance on a random number generator rather than a player's skill. The golden key or chest placed behind a shop, making them inaccessible without triggering the Shopkeeper or expending almost all of your bombs. Arrow traps directly in the path or triggered from outside the screen, resulting in unexpected arrow hits. Stun locks, Shopkeepers triggered by snails, altars destroyed by falling saucers (sometimes earning you a ball and chain), a panel at the top left obscuring parts of the ceiling, making spiders unseen. The player sometimes being instantly killed within the first 0.5 seconds at the entrance of an ice cave by a falling saucer struck by a mammoth or something. Have anything of that happen, and puff... 15 minutes of your life are gone wasted. This way the game is not "good," "bad," or "hard" - it seems just "wrong".

my all time favorite game

if there is a perfect combination of Roguelike and platforming is Spelunky HD, i have won 3 times, lost 900 times, and im still playing it

Better than I expected

Especially with this being on a free promo, usually GOG only put the er...... dregs on those. But this does work, and it looks quite crisp and clear, despite being "cutesy". It is quite difficult and the levels are all very randomised as well....... so how far you get is often as much luck as skill. The finger twisting controls (though they can be remapped) actually made my hands hurt, so prolonged play wasn't really possible without getting laid up with carpal tunnel syndrome! :D Would never buy it for current full price of £12, but would pay about £3. Just lucky I got it for nothing.

Casually making you pay attention

It's a cool game, high replayability, secrets, small unlocks, cartoon graphics. It doesn't bore you, makes you assess situation sometimes extremely quickly. To be ideal it could have a save run button between levels, but then you can be almost sure that the flow will be broken.
