It's a fun concept and on first glance it looks like there is a lot of customization and choice, but really it's very linear and very easy.
Hopefully the devs go back and do a balance pass and make player choices actually matter.
I hyperfocused on the game and finished it in two days, but it's got a nice little pacing with a limited amount of actions per day, so it can easily be played a bit at a time.
The progression is indeed linear as another commenter said: each npc has a questline that can be done in 2-3 in-game days, and you have about 7 npcs to talk to during you run. I found the quests pretty fun and diverse, actually (I'm kinda wondering if there were different ones with the other faction).
There's not much handholding but there's no need for it: just enough is told about the world and goals to get you going at the beginning and you discover the rest as you explore.
The characters and environment are nicely drawn and animated. And...there are rats. Cute little pet rats that you can equip with helmets and little capes and cute little weapons and send into battle! I named each one, and got overly attached to them and I really felt that -3 hope whenever they died.
RIP Johnny, Jimmy, Rocky, Spikey, Bobby, Newbie and Sandy, you will be missed :(
To recap, there's a good chance you'll have a more than okay time with this game, so give it a try, especially while it's on sale :)
