Slipstream 5000

I loved this game when it came out and it's a great nostalgia trip to play it again now. I remember playing it until my joystick broke, and it's still good fun. The graphics are dated, sure, but they were very good for their time and the game still works surprisingly well today. Mastering the different tracks and using tactics like turbo and weapons usage is still great fun. It works on new PCs with Win10, unlike many other pre-Win10 games

This is one of those half-nostalgic games that I didn't have as a kid but I it was featured in a gaming magazine I read. Who could forget Victoria Venice? Now, I was actually surprised how good the actual game is. You pilot a flying vehicle in different kind of tracks - some in more open natural landscapes and some in claustrobhobic tunnels. Winning gives you money, and then you can buy better engines, weapons and stuff. I have some complaints: the weapons are quite expensive and they only give you a few shots and then you have to buy new. But if you buy a better turbo accelerator to give you more speed that will also last on other levels. The engine becomes more important in the game and the weapons seem like a novelty if you happen have extra money (especially if you play in harder setting). So if you want a combat game you better look elsewhere, this one is more about being fast and careful pilot. I managed to win tournaments in the medium difficulty setting but the hardest setting seem almost impossible because the computer pilots are so fast. I haven't tried a multiplayer game, I guess that might be even more fun too. I'd say it's not a perfect racing game but it has enough charm to keep you entertained for some time at least. Exclusively for nostalgia's sake, it was enjoyable to replay it, but the pixel mush really strains the eyes on modern screens, and to be honest, even back then. It's in the same style of game as Hi-Octane. The game responds very well with an Xbox 360 controller, the controls are very pleasant.

Killer game to play with a flightstick

Only what's the point of championship if it doesn't unlock tracks even if you get the first place in the championship? Nowadays these graphics can't be judged, at the time of orginal release I assuming where good. But still I had troubled in Norway because I couldn't see where snow on mountain ended and sky started. Maybe keyboard controles aren't recommended for this game, but for me they were good enough. Also I found you can control aircrafts steering with mouse, but it was worst then keyboard. Maybe too hight of mouse sesitivity or vice versa, which can't be changed in game. Which is understable for the orginal time of release.
