Solid From Top to Bottom

Singularity isn’t a game that blew my mind by introducing a new feature or idea but it was very polished and was enjoyable. The weapons all felt fun to use and there was a good amount of upgrades to get for them. The TMD device was alright to use but I didn’t find a real reason to use it and would have preferred having the knife for a melee option as it didn’t need ammo to use and it got replaced by the TMD whether you like it or not. There were some decent environmental combat options such as cryo tanks and explosive barrels. The story itself was decent but got a little convoluted near the end. I will say that I was surprised to have three options to fork the story at the end, especially one of the options that didn’t think it would let me do. I also liked finding audio recordings and secret messages on the walls to add back story and expand on plot points. The graphics are much like the game play in that nothing wowed me for the time period it was released at but nothing was below average or an eye sore either. It was all simply good and serviceable. One part I did really like was the weapon damage on enemies, I thought the bullet impacts were very well done. The game wasn’t overly difficult on normal outside of one fight. The hard option may have been more of a challenge but I have a rule against picking the hardest difficulty if you can’t move it down during the game. I played Singularity on Linux using Wine and DXVK. It never crashed and I didn’t notice any bugs or glitches. There are four graphics options and a v-sync toggle. Alt-Tab works. The game uses checkpoint saves, they’re pretty well spaced. One thing I didn’t like was that in order to quit the game you must quit to the main menu; back out to the first screen; choose quit and confirm it. I didn’t try to Alt-F4 so that may have been a quicker option but regardless it’s a convoluted process to exit the game. I couldn’t measure the frame rate while I played but I didn’t feel any lag spikes at all.

The way FPS games used to be made. Great

I bought this game years ago for PC on DVD. Now that I see it on sale on GoG, I bought it again. I remember this game vividly. It was developed during a time when story mattered as much as the gameplay. It holds up well after all these years. I look forward to playing it again. If these things matter to you, then buy and play it. One of my favorite all time FPS games.

The last of the "thinking man" shooters

I’ll level with you: ironically, I did not expect this game to be much of a singularity among other shooters of its era. I thought it would be a fun but forgettable experience, and the first few minutes of gameplay indeed seemed to confirm I was once again about to play through the adventures of some grunt who can’t carry more than two guns or sprint for more than ten steps. Yet, the more I played Singularity, the more I became impressed by how fun and well-made it was. Once the plot is truly kicked in motion when the hero is given a cool timey-wimey device, Singularity becomes a memorable romp where you’ll dispatch a respectable variety of enemies in badass ways: in additions to your regular shotguns and rifles, you’ll get to headshot monsters in slow-mo, throw explosive barrels like it’s nothing, and even have enemy soldiers rot away in seconds! Not just that, but the game’s world is full of smart design choices that guarantee a much more engaging experience than your average cover shooter. Your powers will often come in handy to solve puzzles, and despite the linearity of the campaign you’re encouraged to take your time to explore each location -both to upgrade your character and to remain stacked on resources. No regenerating health here: you’d better start looking for medkits! I can’t say I found Singularity’s gameplay to be spotless though. Every action is animated, which often breaks the flow of the combat. I’m not a fan of those weapon “upgrades” that should have been here from the get-go. And while the novelty guns and offensive powers are fun to fool around with, the basic assault rifle is almost always the best and safest option. In the end I’d absolutely recommend Singularity, which runs well on modern computers (though there’s no built-in way to adjust the terribly low FOV). If you enjoy smart, atmospheric shooters like Doom 3, Half-Life 2 or F.E.A.R, have a shot at what was arguably the last of them: it’s just the right length, and a ton of fun.

Awesome unfinished game

Honestly, I liked it a lot just by the nature of the subjects it touches on. Sadly, none of it's fully realized and ends up feeling rushed. The difficulty settings feel wrong in both normal and hard options, specially with an end game that feels easier than the first couple of levels. Story is pretty inconsistent, although quite interesting. The main protagonist fall flat and may as well be silent the whole game. The "quantum messages" in the walls are a great touch that amount to almost nothing at all. The gauntlet is by far the biggest dissapointment since all you do is age and de-age boxes most of the game. It may overall seem like a bad game. However, never have I tried so hard to find secrets, easter eggs and scrapped so hard to find collectibles or anything that could help me understand better a game... Sadly I found out a couple months later the history behind the game and its developer. I can only enjoy what we've got while wondering what could've been. This is an awesome game that didn't get to shine.

its good!

If youre looking for Bioshock like/lite this is your game. short and sweet. fun and spooky. great for someone wanting to get creative ideas or juices going for their own project. Raven soft is al always top teir and with theyd return to greatness.
