This is a great Shooter

I remember playing Sin when it was released. It was somehow different from the other games of its time; it has not only great shooting mechanics, but great characters and writing. Blade feels to be the true successor to Duke - more than what became of Duke in DN Forever. It is a pity that Sin Episodes didnt do very well - and that it wasnt very good actually. But we still have this little gem and thanks to gog I could play it again today after all these years: Highly recommended!

CLASSIC

i played this back in the day on a Compaq Persario 2240, my poor old Voodoo3 2000 PCI was bought soley to play this game, the $300+ for the card was worth it then, and i would glady pay the few coins GOG ask for this game. i love the challenge of it, not only was there split paths to take that could take you a different route altogether or just at a different start point in the next stage, but in some sections, like the LAB, you can either go LEROY JENKINS meets DUKE NUKEM, or you can go all METAL GEAR SOLID, it was a great alround game for its time, there were plenty of hiden easter eggs, including a not so PG Triangular breasts, took me 6 hours of exploring one stage to find that easter egg! Sure it had its run of bugs on release, but now, thanks to NGLIDE and GOG, it is near perfetion it should have been!

No Classic then, and No Better Now

It's staggering that SiN reviewed as well as it did back in the day, and that it has enjoyed something of a resurgence in the wake of the retro FPS throwback craze. It's a wonky, joyless game with shooting surpassed by anything created on the Build Engine before it. Movement is slippery, affording none of the precision you'd expect from forebearers like Quake or even Shadow Warrior. Firefights take place in the open and involve little more stratgey than standing in the open and whittling down the bullet sponge enemies. There's a reason the levels are littered with armor pickups; you can't avoid damage in SiN, merely mitigate it. The reuslting opening hours are tediously without challenge, bar the odd instant death trap or finicky jumping puzzle, which the controls are ill-suited to complement. By level 4 the game has entirely run out of ideas, choosing to lock you in cramped environments with a veritable tank of an enemy, his slipshod movements no fun to interpret with your wayward aim and spectral movement. SiN sold poorly, and given what it bought to the FPS fore in a time of far better competition, I see no reason why that should change over 20 years later.

not worth the money

all the 5-star reviews must be from nostalgic old-timers. i understand that. however… sin wanted to bring something new to the stage back in 1998, but there arrives half-life. and even those who liked sin for it's animation-like graphics got deus ex in a couple of years, which delivered in tons what sin never had. look for RookUK comment ("Deservedly forgotten") for more. don't buy it for $9,99 unless you know what you are doing ;-) add it to wishlist and wayt for a discount if you absolutely must have it, and in the meantime grab yourself some of 2004-ish shooters here for half the price.
