STOP!
This damned thing keeps prompting me to post a review. It gives the option "maybe later", but then asks again EVERY TIME I PLAY. There is no "STOP BUGGING ME" option.

Colonisation - Olde, but goodie.
I purchased this game many years ago on DOS, when it was first published. However, this current version on GOG seems very different to that, and somewhat less enjoyable than the original. GOG version feels very 'cramped'. What I mean by this is that in this version you are guaranteed to encounter at least one other nation immediately, usually more. Bottom line of this means that if you wish to concerntrate on building your colonies, and encounter others later on, this version will not allow this style of play. Also, the time(turns) seems to pass more quickly than I remember from the original game. Ultimately, I do enjoy this game and that's why I still play it many years after it was originally released, though with this version I find several frustrations in the gameplay that I don't remember being present in the original. For the price though, this is a must buy if you like this kind of game.

Oldie and Still Goodie
The origina Civilization play engine presents a good logistical challenge. You play the governor of the new colony. Will a continent be named after you or an infectious disease?

Sid Meier is the best.
Sid Meier has made a number of great computer games inspired by old board games (which have then gone on to inspire other boardgames). In this case he has taken the old Avalon Hill game Conquistador (which was never a good title for the game) and turned it into Civ in the New World. Although a lot like Civ and a number of other 4x games this game does a good job of distinguishing itself by addressing a very different type of history. The game is as addictive as any TBS game I've ever played. The graphics show its age as does the 8-bit sound track, but I keep finding myself coming back to it and enjoying it anew.
