Obtuse, dated, unplayable for newcomers
This may have been a landmark in game development and creative depth. But, when approached for the first time with modern sensibilities, it's absolutely miserable. I simply can't make myself play it. Terrible ui. Terrible audio. Bland sci fi ideas. Inaccessible mechanics. If you've taken an interest in this after enjoying civ 6, don't.

It could have been good...
Intresting concept, but crap AI, confusing and sometimes plain bizarre rules and bunch of other annoying stuff made this game unplayable for me. I'll take Civ 2 anyday over this.

Unplayable
This game needs an updated sequel more than any other game in the history of Sci Fi 4x PC gaming. It's a venerable old game, just as good as any Civ game but it got left behind in the dusts of time and it's as Ancient now as the Colosseum in Rome or the Parthenon in Greece. lmao It's just too damn old to play anymore, it's like a DOS or a Commodore 64 game. It's Pre-Windows XP. That's how old this game is.
