Too much love was put into this game.

This is not an FTL clone. Sadly, because FTL is an easy to learn game but hard to master. With FTL you simply fire your Flak Mark I at the enemy ship to lower the shields and use a fire beam to fry them. Or perhaps board their ship and kill everyone in sight. In STTE first you have to make sure that you have special ammunition. But if you do not have ammunition, you can always scrap some stuff to get that ammunition. But you might not have enough storage for that ammunition, so you have expand your storage by building storage container. And if you do not have specific scrap to buy that storage container, you can of course scrap other stuff. Do you see where I am getting with this? This is not a space combat simulation, this is some economics game with some combat flavors. To put it simply, bean counter simulator.

An FTL Knock-off

As someone who played FTL to death I REALLY wanted to love this game too, but it's like a cheap Chinese knock-off of the original. Crew are disposable blips, enemies repeat on each run, there is nothing new to learn after one run, and worst of all there is no reward for knowledge of past runs! That's right the game is a cynical take on the perma-death roguelike where you are at the mercy of dumb luck and nothing you learn will improve your odds. Yes, that is the ultimate failing here - and I have 40 runs done so far so I can say with some confidence that my win was due to luck and not mastery of systems. I am giving it two stars because the concept was good: bigger ships, more detail, and potentially a longer run than FTL, but this game in no way improves on it's obvious inspiration.

I LOVE STTE but it has serious problems!

I only have 2k char so I will post solutions: 1. add story or "no headache" mode. current difficulty level goes tutorial, challenging, hardcore. to me this translates to "learn how to die", "die eventually", and "die even sooner". To me, challenging should mean that If I try hard enough and think smart enough and fight hard enough that I can and will eventually win, and the story will be insane, but I will succeed. There's none of that currently! Just failure, death, loss, and disappointment. This seriously gets in the way of fun for me. 2. make all fate points carry over and save up with no limit 3. make all fate point unlockables permanent unlocks that can be enabled or disabled 4. make fuel and resources go further and last longer. This is resource and fuel micromanagement HELL. 5. improve storage options, capacity, and availability for fuel and resources. I always have enough space but no resources to fill it, or too little space and have to actually throw resources and fuel away. No matter what I run out and get stranded, completely ruining some great runs. 6. WASD movement smoothing has a setting to change or disable it, but there seems to be mouse smoothing because my mouse moves obnoxiously weird in-game but there is no setting for it. I just want to disable it so my mouse can move like it normally does. 7. hard points/reinforcement shouldn't take up a module slot, slots are too precious to give up for a little extra ship HP. Simply allow them to be added to existing module slots or changed or removed later and still allow modules to be placed on top. 8. module slots should be 10x smaller and 10x as numerous. Too few, forces me to always feel trapped and limited in the worst way possible. 9. GUI windows pop up for almost every action taken by the player. Every time I want to do something, a window obnoxiously pops up in my face and blocks my view, ever after moving it around. Please re-do the whole GUI into all encompassing info with no pop-ups. Thank you.

Great Strategy Game

Very good strategy game with ingenious expansion system and interesting stories. I enjoyed playing for a long time until I was finally back home. I would have liked to cross more individuals and systems, because after I arrived home the motivation for a restart with a more difficult level was not high.
