But I finally got to play the GOG version after its release. So far, my experience has been quite good. The game started immediately without any issues. I was able to select my widescreen resolution without it crashing. I didn't encounter a formation bug. It worked fine for me without the mouse behaving erratically, and I'm running Windows 11. I tried a couple of historical battles and the campaign with no problems. It also ran quite smoothly during battles. Honestly, I love the old-school Total War graphics. I'm giving the game 5 stars, not only because it's on GOG, but also because it's a great game. Edit: I had time to test the game again on my gaming desktop, this time with the same OS but different Hardware. This game will always have a special place in my heart as fan of RTS and turn based games The games does overall work fine expect one thing tho: DLL errors when playing movies. This game has great cut scenes that bring the era of the samurai to life, but currently, whenever the game tries to play one of these cut scenes a big error message comes up about a DLL mistake. The good thing is that you can just click on it and the game will go on without any problem. My guess is that the software for playing those cutscenes are very old - possibly too old for the game to run 100% smoothly. I hope that gog will look into this. Still the game runs well otherwise and its mostly a minor inconvenience that i am writing so that gog can try to patch it. if it wasnt for that i would give this a glowing review for being on of the best games set in the time period and a great start to the total war games. Despite being old (the camera control in the battles for one and the visuals) it still has things that newer Total War games have simply abandoned. Like being able to build a great deal of buildings without having to think about build slots, which became prevalent after Rome 2. Or something like standing on a hill with archers makes them do more damage, or when it rains, the bow string becomes wet, making them less accurate. Or how about the fact that you can lead armies without having it to be tied to a "legendary" superhero, i mean, commander :P - something that adds more flexibility and strategic freedom to the player.
