I've tried all fixes I could find (PhysX, DirectX, compatibily mode, run at 640x480 etc). Also, the support folder is missing in this version. I can't believe I'm downloading a test version right now.
I couldn't immerse myself in the story because there were too many puzzles. I understand that with Sherloch Holmes you can expect many puzzles, but with this game the story and the tension got sacrificed for it. Which is a pity, as the combination of Sherlock Holmes and Jack the Ripper made me quite exciting for playing it. Now I am skeptical to start playing the other Sherlock games...
I have barely played for two hours and so far what I have seen is terrible design choices after even more terrible design choices.
For example, the first puzzle is to open a police bag locked by a code. The game does not give you hints or explain where the numbers should go or the final objective. Just play around until your brute force your way in.
Most missions are just this "Oh you are the famous sherlock holmes, do you mind doing 20 unimportant tasks so I could give information about a murder?" These tasks are sometimes just pure agony as you are forced to traverse the horrible map of a single area in London. The view distance is so tiny that you have to be less than 3 meters to see. You have no compass or sense of direction, and your FOV is so small I lose direction instantly when I get close to a building or a house. Because apparently, Sherlock Holmes has a 4x optical zoom built into his eye.
Dialogue and voice acting are just bad. I cannot find any enjoyment in it.
The deduction and crime scene investigation have cool ideas but fail to execute any of them. The first scene you investigate has no body. But Sherlock Holmes just imagines a perfect copy of the corpse and somehow adds 3d detail to it without ever interacting with the real dead woman. He then jumps to conclusions left&right just spewing nonsense without ever proving that things happen. For example, once Sherlock imagines the dead body, he pulls out a magnifying glass and checks for details on the fake body that HE IMAGINED. And because logic has been thrown out the window and every bystander has fewer brain cells than a penguin it makes sense.
After that horrible part, you now play as Waston. And the same thing happens, you are forced to run around like a headless chicken, talk to every NPC you have met before and even new ones. And just do boring tasks in order to get basic information for a murder.
In conclusion, do not play this game. Or any other sherlock game. They are all bad.
