Shattered Steel takes place in a desolate future where humanity is on the verge of extinction. The Core Wars, waged by rival factions for natural resources - and ultimately survival - left society in ruins. Massive industrial conglomerates deploy mechanized mercenary armies to maintain a tenuous order. You're a hotshot runner pilot. You've neutralized hundreds of pirates and rival ops on over 22 worlds. Your weapon is the lethal Planet Runner which can navigate any terrain and strike with devastating firepower. You mission is to cleanse the planet from alien forces and restore order.

Save your species as you engage in fast-paced mechanized combat in the single-player campaign containing 50 adrenaline-pounding missions and arm your Planet Runner with blazing firepower - over 25 armaments, including gatling guns, guided missiles, fuel-air mortars and plasma cannons.

a good game, but GOGs version is broken

I was about to give up on this one, - i played this title at last, having it in my GOG ibrary for years, only to find that I couldnt select weapons in the arming bay nor were my weapons ever appearing to even hit the enemy. In fact, missiles were literally flying through targets. I thought perhaps that Shattered Steel was just an impossibly hard game or badly made one, but instead it appears GOG have not done their due diligence to actually set the game up properly in dosbox. I turned to Exodos and tried the game there and it runs perfectly - no hit detection issues and arming bay works correctly. Thank you to ExoDOS for doing what GOG cant be bothered to do.

Badly broken. Wait for a fix.

If you liked the old game you will hate this one. The hit detection with lasers and missiles is near 0. The posted solutions, are: aim missiles at the ground and set dosbox to think your running a low grad 90's PC. Lowering your setting causes the game to run choppy on mid to low graphics setting. In short THIS GAME DOES NOT WORK!!! It will start but you cant hit anything. DO NOT BUY UNTIL FIXED!!!

Broken hit detection and no fix

I feel like all discussion of this games merits are pointless as long as it is THIS broken. Playing on a modern PC - which all of you will - the game is simply broken. Hit detection is nearly non-existent. You will waste all of your ammo on 1 to 3 enemies, then run out, because your shots mostly pass right through. I'm not bad at aiming either. You can have a target take up 25% of your screen space and still see most of your shots pass right through. It is a bug that results from the game not being able to handle the fast CPU speeds of modern computers. Everyone says the supposed "fix" is bad, since it will make the game run all choppy and just become unplayable in another way instead. Most of all, I'm baffled that GOG thinks it's ok to keep asking money for this. It wouldn't be worth the download if it was free.

Shattered Steel

GOG, please fix this game. Hit detection and collision detection is broken. Unable to finish even the starter level due o this issue. Getting a refund makes me run in circles. Avoid paying for this game.

Excellent Game

This game has a little bit of everything. It has a mixture of light-action gameplay and a fair deal of mech-shooting strategy/customization. My only gripe would be the torso-twist aiming (MechWarrior 4 fan) causing me minor disorientation, but it's not a problem after a short few minutes getting oriented.
