This long for so little =(

While the game is not bad as other state, it IS very linear. How so? Simple, you enter the game world and you cannot do anything, other than talk to the characters in the size of a handkerchief allotted area. You go where they bring you and then the game ends. ...no...really...it can play by itself it is THAT much on rails. Unlike most people I was hoping for a Sega Genesis style game of it. But for some odd reason people seem to think the SNES game was some how better. In any event, if you want a garbage SNES style game, this is it with better graphics.

Shallowrun Refunds

I got this game for cheap and what a load of wasted potential. This version and the Steam one both have a game-breaking bug near the end of the included campaign where the game locks up during a scripted NPC event while in combat. The mechanics all seem to function well, however, so props for that. I sadly can't recommend when the game ships with a broken campaign and even the best fan-made content that one can download isn't particularly good. I'm moving on to Dragonfall next, but SR:R remains one of my biggest CRPG disappointments from the past decade.

This is an awesome title, but...

At the time of writing this, it's price is way above most other GOG games that have campaigns that last easily 4-6 times longer. I breezed through this in 12 hours. User-created content helps and replay value is good because of the different classes. Even so, I'd recommend this game to anyone who enjoys the old-school turn-based RPG styles like Fallout 1 + 2.

Two major problems

(This is a very positive 3 out of 5. Full disclosure: close to the end but have not actually beaten it. See #2) 1. Only saves between missions, which can go over half an hour, even if you fast-forward through story. This compounds with the fact that you don't buy equipment and allies at the start of a level, but at the the end of the "safehouse" level before it. I would immediately bump this up to 4 stars if they put in quicksave and reworked mission prep. 2. Really rough difficulty spike in the last third of the game. There is NO EXCUSE for enemies that spawn and attack on the same turn, triggered by the player crossing an invisible line, SOMETIMES DURING THE PLAYER'S TURN. I like the "spirit" enemies from a story perspective, but they're just frustrating to actually fight. Other than that, the game has delicious sci-fi noir atmosphere, like Human Revolution with wizards, and a story that has decent characters and does a good job taking advantage of its world, even if the first and second halves of the plot have almost nothing to do with each other. Unlike some RPGs, it's very good at giving the player a lot of options and not screwing you over if you don't have exactly the right skills, even if it isn't really open-ended. If you're okay gambling your time some, this is worth the money. I'm certain modders will provide worthwhile content in the future as well.
