Really nice game, CHROMADEPTH COMPATIBLE

I found this game through a short on YouTube and was instantly hooked. While trying it, i got the idea of testing it with my ChromaDepth-Glases (they make an 3D-Effect based on the refraction of the different colors, like when shining white light through a prisma. Red object will be in the front and the more blue an object is, the more away it is) Just amazing, how it looks through them. So, if you dont have enough money (or PC-Power), then grab one of these glasses (under 5 Bugs per unit on amazon) and enjoy it. You dont have to change any settings ingame.

Clever, if short and lackluster

I expected this to be a short little trip around a single gimmick, but I had hoped there was more to it somehow. I can't say I'm disappointed since I knew all along it was going to be a rather short tech demo. Impressive visuals, good music at times, novel mechanic that becomes tiresome quickly. However, too many missed opportunities to make a deeper, scarier and more satisfying game to beat. I understand that is maybe not what the devs intended with their story, however the trailer is expertly crafted to make you think there is a mystery to solve, that you are trying to survive. Tiny spoiler: you aren't, there isn't. After everything's said and done, I would consider it worth the experience for the current summer sale price, I just feel that I would have gotten more out of buying a book ten times the length for the same money.

Great exploration, but forget the rest

Don't play this game for its story/game mechanics, play it as a beautiful exploration toy and you'll have a good time! It's just a walking simulator with a dark atmosphere, yes. The whole thing took me about 3 hours to complete and I went slowly. The story is promising in the beginning, but doesn't expand on the interesting bits. The rest of the story feels a bit like a forced conclusion, it's not too bad, but it's really just there to mark the ending. What makes this game great is that exploring feels more interesting than in a normal game where you see what's there versus here where you discover the area around you by scanning. Scanning looks cool and is quite fun in itself. Looking back at the whole long winding cave you've scanned is really neat! Some people mentioned they didn't like to hold LMB all the time: You can just press MMB once and your scanner keeps scanning till you press MMB again. Compared to Dear Esther: DE is a more coherent game, the single parts make more sense together than in Scanner and it worked better as a whole. On the other hand, exploration in Scanner is way more satisfying.

A short, unique experience

This game left a very good impression on me. The gameplay is simple but incredibly atmospheric, combining great (and very unique) visuals with splendid sound design and music. While the game is quite short, it isn't too expensive (in my opinion), and had it gone on for much longer it might have gotten dull. I'd say it's about the perfect length. As always, some will argue the story and ending didn't impress them, but I liked it enough to re-watch it on YouTube every once in a while. To conclude, I'd definitely recommend you check this out. There really isn't any game like it, and it's a good experience for the price.

good exercise in atmospherics.

good game. interesting little game to while away the afternoon. The sole mechanic is subtly addictive, since it is the sole means of seeing the world. Story didn't do it for me, was a little lean, and what was there felt unfocused and somewhat cliched. but the feel of it, the ambience and innate mystery of being stuck in a cave had me wanting to explore and keep playing. I recommend it.
