Satellite Reign is a real-time, class-based strategy game. You control a team of four agents, each with distinct and unique abilities, collectively battling for control of a simulated, living cyberpunk city.
Customise your team with the strength to destroy your enemies head-on, or hack into their facilities to manipulate their infrastructure without them ever knowing you were even there.
Will you take down your enemies with brute-force? Covert espionage and infiltration? Or will you use propaganda to influence the citizens of the city and overthrow the controlling powers?
The world's governments are controlled by mega-corporations, democracy to the highest bidder. Society is structured for the benefit of those in power. The poor exist in the dark squalid underbelly of the city, while the wealthy swim in opulence and luxury on the upper tiers, and the vast middle-class are too comfortable with their lives of convenience to see the world for what it really is. Corporate police patrol the streets, brutally maintaining the status quo, all under the guise of keeping the people safe.
The time for change is now, as a mysterious organisation rises from the slums of the city. They'll have to bribe, steal, hack, kill and augment their way through the barriers between them and their ultimate goal...but what are they trying to achieve? To free the masses from the corporate stranglehold, or to take control for themselves? That, is up to you.
This seems like a great concept, I enjoyed the combat, especially since its not turn based and it is not a one shot kill. However a quad core 3.4ghz processor recommended seemed like over kill, but I guess its not. Im way above. the minimum requirements but the gameplay is smooth but yet slow enough to get bored easily.
Beautiful stylish game with AAA game design and mechanics. The beginning of game is a bit difficult, because the squad lacks augmentations and equipment, but mid and late part of game are absolutely awesome.
* The real time aspect has dynamic pause (default quick button is D), but it is ability that your Coordinator must learn. You need to invest into it (and upgrade to maximum level), if you feel quickly overwhelmed managing your team.
* Every facility has an unlimited number of security personnel, but new personnel arrives only when some of security guards or camera call them (big red exclamation mark). When you see that the guard is on alert, focus that concrete guard with all your firepower, hit in melee or use crowd control, like frag granade, personnel hacking, etc. to prevent spamming enemies. Hacking enemies is number 1 skill of hacker. You can have up to 5 hacked enemies fighting on your side, which rules almost every battle for your success, if managed at least half properly.
* The enemy always has better equipment than you, but this is exactly why you need to hack your enemies. Use your enemy's power against themselves wisely!
It took me 16 hours to finish the game, so it is kinda short. Still, it is definitely masterpiece and I recommend it to everyone who likes good tactical strategy.
P.S. Music is awesome.
the System requirements need to be updated, i have a pretty good laptop with 8GB of ram and this thing struggles to run on it. it's almost playable on the lowest resolution but at that resolution i am having trouble reading the onscreen text, also it's not true fullscreen there are black borders on the sides. this game looks like it could be really good but we are off to a rough start, i suggest you have a really good video card, 3GHZ CPU and no less than 16GB ram, then it should run good.
This game is clearly inspired by Syndicate, but the actual gameplay is not Syndicate - more importantly, it doesn't grasp what made Syndicate actually fun. The core of Syndicate was quick, tactical battles with a lot of destruction. The challenge was trying to choose your battles and work your way through the mission like a puzzle, because both you and your enemies could be killed in an instant. For better or worse, Satellite Reign focuses on stealth, to the point where the combat is actually kind of boring. Even a basic security guard takes an eternity to kill, so don't expect any Syndicate-style fast-paced battles. Combat basically involves finding cover, right-clicking on a target and then and waiting as the lifebars slowly trickle down. There are abilities you can activate, but none of them feels particularly interesting or does much to speed up the combat.
There's fun to be had here. Satellite Reign has a big open world with lots of objectives, there's a lot of upgrading to be done and the stealth elements are kind of enjoyable - disabling security cameras and sneaking past guards, etc. But there are better stealth games, and better tactical action games, and Satellite Reign gets old pretty fast. The world is big and open and pretty, but also empty and dreary. Nothing you do in this game ever feels particularly meaningful. For the most part I found myself completing objectives just for the sake of ticking them off the to-do list. Ultimately I wish I had spent my time doing something more fun - like playing Syndicate Wars again.
Whatever the nostalgia trippers are saying this game has huge FPS and other performance problems which for me and many others makes this product unplayble. After a google search it seems like the devs have given up on finishing the product they are selling. I will never trust this team again and its pretty obvious that these problems are keeping a mediocre experience from being a potential classic, Syndicate has not yet been surpassed.
