Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobble head dolls all available at a store near you.
The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute. Refusing to kneel to the Syndicate, you take the fight to Steelport, a once-proud metropolis reduced to a struggling city of sin under Syndicate control.
Take a tank skydiving, call in a satellite-targeted airstrike on a Mexican wrestling gang, and defend yourself against a highly-trained military force using only a sex toy in the most out- landish gameplay scenarios ever seen, igniting a city-wide war that will set Steelport on fire. Strap it on.

I own this game on Steam. I loved it, even if the story and characters paled in comparison to the SR2.
But let's be clear, as fun as the game is playing solo, the best play is co-op play. And this GOG version doesn't do online co-op. Disappointing to say the least, as someone who would love to play co-op with his international wife.
Still worth buying, but it does feel like only half a game without that online component. Here's hoping GOG can get it working through Galaxy or something.
This is a game that redefines fun in a lot of ways and you get the feeling the developers were having a very good time while creating this.
It's colorful, over the top, ridiculous at times and it never ever takes itself too serious. This is specially great in a world full of gritty, brownish and tight arsed games.
Game play is fun. Lots of ludicrous combat, a nice story that will not change your life but will make you laugh. Tons of collectibles. Great music selection. Maps are huge and a lot of missions variety. Customization is awesome and funny thanks to the crapload of DLCs.
Oh, and no DRM? Go grab a controller, your favorite snack and soda and start having a great time already!
A lot has been said about the over-the-top wackiness of this game, and that actually kept me from playing it for some time (which is a good thing because I ended up getting it for much less). But if that's what's holding you back, don't worry. Underneath the craziness is a very solid, very playable game.
For me, the stars of the game are the vehicles. The cars and motorcycles drive better than most racing games and the planes and helicopters fly better than most flight simulators. And the cars are interesting enough that collecting them and customizing them is a big part of the fun.
Characters are also extremely customizable, both in terms of their physique and their wardrobe.
Combat is also well done. Both melee and weapons are responsive and satisfying.
As insane as the whole thing is, there's actually a story and it's interesting enough to want to see it through. The ending is disappointing. Not because it's bad, but because the game is over. You really want it to go on. Technically, you can continue to play past the end, but it gets monotonous quickly without any goals. Still, it's a nice touch.
Oh, and the soundtrack is awesome. I've found myself driving past my destination because I didn't want to stop the music on the car radio.
Spoiler alert:
It's a product of it's time. Yes, it has zombies.
A great game which stands out from the "gta clone" stereotype by having it's own crazy style of storytelling and gameplay.
This one is my favorite of the series; it's crazy, but still somewhat believable.
The game works flawlessly having great optimization.
Combine all of the above with all of the extra dlc and you have a must-buy open world "gta like" game.
There should be more games like this. :)
Saints Row 3 is a fantastic open-world sandbox game and I seriously recommend playing it, especially now that it is available with no DRM and at such an awesome price point.
I will say though, as other reviewers have pointed out, the storyline is unfortunately not as strong as it was in Saints Row 2, however I think you have to just enjoy it for what it is - it's quite silly and stupid at times but that's part of the games' charm - it doesn't try to be serious in the same way that Grand Theft Auto does, but that's okay - Saints Row 3 is more focused on just creating fun gameplay above all else.
