Time Sink
I hate this game so much. Whenever I start it up, it takes me up to 6 hours to get out again! There's always something else to kill, a quest to complete, gear to buy!

Dragged down by bugs and an empty world
I played the base version of Sacred in the past, beat this recently with a Wood Elf. After exploring every inch of the map possible and doing all the quests, I finished with 52.24% explored at 83 hours 32 minutes. I consider this Elder Scrolls x Diablo. Instead of 4 different acts offering one base connected to a dungeon zone, Sacred is an one big world with villages and cities and dungeons. The atmosphere is great but exploring felt hugely unrewarding as there isn't really much interesting out there to find. Questing is pretty boring, there's a lot of them, there's a bit too many escort missions, and most of the rewards are runes (good but boring). This is made worse by high enemy respawn rate as well. The enemy density is also high enough that you cannot easily sneak around them. On the bright side, it makes farming easier, but it makes traveling a pain, especially through dangerous areas. You'd want to buy a horse with a high Speed rating or boost your character's Speed stat to outrun pursuers if you want to run through zones. It's not foolproof as there are enemies who can root you in place with spells, which may lead to your death if you aggroed too many things along the way. There's also some annoying bugs. There's at least three quest bugs that will prevent other quests from being completed if you do the wrong thing at the wrong time. My quest log was also missing completely when importing my character into Underworld. It happens even if I use the Demon and Dwarf characters provided with the game by default. I don't regret purchasing it, but I got it on sale and I did know what I was getting myself into. It's hard to recommend in general, but it has a pretty unique feel to it. I rated it a 3/5, docked to a 2/5 mainly for the bugs and how I felt my time was wasted wandering their huge maps for little reward. If you intend to try this, read a guide to understand the mechanics of character building, and don't waste your time exploring every inch of the map.

historicaly the best action rpg
a true open rpg, with heavy lean on action mouse controls, in no time you will be swinging swords and casting spells. it has no chill, no wait to do what you want. the longest intro is 30 min, the shortest? if you click fast sub 20 seconds

An ARPG genre milestone
TL;DR play it if you don't mind clunkiness and/or you want to experience one of the most, IMO, influential games in the history of the ARPG genre. I've liked the game. Yes, it is a bit dated (and I play old games all the time so didn't mind it at all), but the gameplay rocks most of the time. Refer to the points below to decide if it is up your alley: - the game features open world, which actually works. You might expect snow in the North and hot climate in the South. Well, this is exactly how the world of Ancaria is like! - this open worldness brings non-linearity. Most of the time you will work on the side and not on the main quests - side quests are many. And i mean MANY. The issue I have with them is that they are mostly boring. Bring me 10 boar ears. Kill 10 goblins. Escort my drunk husband back here so that I can scold him. Your usual MMO stuff. - this brings me to the next point: the world exploration feels unrewarding most of time. Ancaria is literally MASSIVE. But when exploring you will mostly find either of 2 things: caves or villages/towns. Towns have side quests and my issue with them is described above. The caves are fun, but they are not Diablo 2-like caves (pardon for the comparison, but it is only most natural to compare Sacred to Diablo, since they are only 4 years apart). You will not find tons of elites. You WILL find chests, but chests in Sacred are beyond useless. They usually only contain gold, which quickly becomes obsolete and I didn't even bother hunting them after some time in the game. This means the exploration IS there, but it is poorly rewarded and you will have to find the fun stuff yourself. - the monster farming and combat, however, feel good. The game is deceptively simple, but, IMO, skills system, runes, sets and combos allow for some serious numbers crunching for those willing to do so - Underworld, which is a separate campaign, feels more like Diablo and less like Sacred. Too many enemies and no open world feeling
