About Ruined King: A League of Legends Story™
Developed by Airship Syndicate and featuring the art style of legendary comic book artist Joe Madureira, creators of Battle Chasers and Darksiders, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is the first Riot Forge game that invites you to explore the League of Legends universe. In this immersive turn-based RPG, you will have the freedom to configure your party and control an unlikely group of League of Legends champions, explore the bustling city of Bilgewater and the mysterious Shadow Isles, and experience the Lane Initiative System.
Key Features
An introduction to Runeterra: Start exploring the rich lore of League of Legends and the extraordinary stories of the Champions.
Build your own party: Forge different strategies by configuring your party of champions and combining new abilities.
Experience the Lane Initiative System: Choose your approach for each enemy encounter and change the course of the battle by tweaking the speed of your actions, reacting to environmental events or modifying the effects of your abilities.
I wasn't expecting much coming from Riot, but this game proved me wrong.
With engaging story and characters (backed up by LoL lore), and fluid turn-based combat with RPG elements, I actually had a great time playing.
Though I did experience quite some bugs (maybe some difference between GOG and Steam versions, or I'm just "lucky" :) )
Title joke aside, this game is very similar to "Battle Chasers: Nightwar" (well, both games were made by the same people), but with some improvements. It is more open-worldly than BC:N (as far as I played, you only move between locations that could be dungeons in other game), "dungeons" are somewhat integrated into the world, battles are turn-based with three-members party with usable skills that can follow three patterns (quick and weak, regular, slow and strong), reworked upgrades (previously you purchased some passive upgrades, like incrased critical chance or defence, now you only get points to directly upgrade your skills). The art style is also similar to BC:N, but IMO it's slightly less comic. It has other things taken from their prevoius game like fishing system, bestiary, two currencies etc. But most important thing is that, it has Ahri and lovely Poros and shoud be enough to buy this game instantly (like I did). But if you aren't fan of those (which is impossible), then you will have a lot of fun playing it, especially if you loved "Battle Chasers: Nightwar".
well the game looks good but it's plagued by two big big problems:
- keyboard rebinding is bugged. If you try to assign a key to a direction, it gets assigned to two directions and there's no way to fix it.
- When the game loses focus (alt+tab) automatically pauses. This is hugely annoying, since there are A LOT of "dead times". Incredibly annoying.
Ive only played it a little bit and I know next to nothing of the lore of LOL (also Ive never played battle chasers so I could not begin to compare). With all that being said, its pretty dang fun. I plan on putting some hours into this.
