Very similar to Slay the Spire, but with more customization.
You control 2 characters at the same time and this adds lots of replay value.Card upgrade with gems, lots of perks for characters and team, map exploration and items.Roguebook gives you greater control over the RNG and I really like this design :)
good card game, card-style combat combined with exploration and trade with rpg elements very joyful to play beutyful graphics, character and enemy design looks great
Version 1.10.15.3.
I have played 42 games in 106 hours, had a lot of fun and will continue to have fun. There are still a few challenges called epilogues to win with all the characters. I have only unlocked one level of additional health for all characters and I can progress fine so far. I’m in the process of playing the epilogues with Sharra and Fugoro (I recommend this DLC, if you like the base game, Fugoro is also fun to play), but I haven’t tried the combat centered epilogues yet, only wealth and exploration.
First of all: It is possible to win your first game. Granted, I got extremely lucky with the cards, gems, skills I was offered and picking the right ones, not knowing what I would get and what would happen along the way, but it is possible. If that happens, don’t be surprised, that you can’t use the pages, you collected, because you have to lose at least once to unlock the upgrades tab.
There are three chapters, each ending with a boss. You can go straight for it, if you really want, but I’m not sure, that’s a good idea.
Otherwise you can explore the map, defeating enemies to collect gold, health potions, ink bottles and pages. You uncover the map by using paint brushes and ink bottles. I really like this part of the game, it gives it a unique touch, fits with the lore and lets you wonder, what you might have found, if you had explored different areas. That means, if you don’t like this mechanic, just want to fight, this game is most likely not for you.
Each hero has a preset set of cards, but you can unlock the options to exchange the basic attack and defend cards with random cards, if you collect enough pages, for more variety in your runs.
There are also chests with cards and events hidden in the chapters. It is a good variety. I made some naive choices at some points and boy did I get beat up for it, but it was still fun to try the different options.
If you like card games and don’t mind the exploration mechanic, try this game. It’s hugely fun.
Fun game but without the same replayablility as similar games like Monster Train. You end up replaying the same 3 levels until your hero gets killed. Your hero does keep getting stronger even after being ressurected but fighting the same old battles again and again does get a bit tedious
