You must learn the combat

For someone who does not like pirate-themed games. This one looks good. The graphics are very nice with lots of details. Patty looks good :-D The rpg gameplay is like The Witcher 1. Complete quest you get from others. Let's talk about the combat. Thats not like The Witcher 1 or God Of War. The hack 'n slash is not really slow but, what slows down is is you're being attacked quickly and just can't attack back. They just keep reapeating their attack. You have to control to block it and when it's possible to attack.... ATTACK! (You can perform a combo of three hits, maybe more later...) You can also roll away, but block after it immidiatly because they "can" turn arround with you and continue attack you. But for heavy hits rolling is very handy. A you read, the combat is something you have to learn and when you get stronger it mabye get easyer. I am just at the beginning of the game now. Is it worth €29? Because of the combat I don't think so, just get it in the sale and just try it out :-D

Huge Game with a lot to discover

Well, the first 30 Minutes are a mess, as others told here already, but after that a huge game opens, with a lot different continents, different stories and so much little details to discover! Thats whats always been great about piranha bytes games. Some of the charakters stories and some of the bossfights and locations are simply stunning (Taranis!) Some of the guilds exclusive skills are awesome, like the teleport for the demon hunters. Great huge game for these quarantine times

Atmospheric, cartoonesque Open World

Pros: Actually Risen 3 has a lot of strong points: Great caribbean atmosphere, funny charaters, a combat system, that allows differnt ways of fighting foes, three quite different "guilds" with unique abilities (eg a kind of monks with a short-distant-teleportation or a sort of aztecs with magical insectoid swarm and more). Also the storytelling is solid, not because of an outstanding innovative framestory, but because of the countless often funny characters and their mini-stories (a mage, that wants you, to look for rare tasty foods for him or a gnome as a member of your own crew, that continuousely steals money from you). Cons: Nasty on the other hand are the very cartoon-shaped big monsters. Some look like big colorful jump'n'run figures. ;( The magic-system is far too easy to handly, so you have no mana-might, but just a "cool-down-time" after each cast or blow. Thus you can just fire and fire and fire and fire... At normal difficulty this game indeed simply sucks, so here my advice: Play this game always at "HARD", only then you will have a good experience! And it can truly be one!

entertaining enough

Compared to Gothic1+2 (and maybe Risen 1), the focus on conflicts of factions is gone almost completely. The NPCs all agree in that anmimals may be dangerous enough to challenge local heros. The outcome of fights is typicallly very clear, so another use for savegames (apart from pointts of political decisions) is gone, too. But games don't always have to be sad song. Enjoy about 30h of interactive caribean movie with fantastic and almost seamless screenplay.

Great game

From the beginning the visuals are amazing. The story too. I was quite suprised by kind of unskipable "minigames" on sea on your ship, but then I really enjoyed them. The fractions have quite a lot of different quests but on the other side very similar magic so it basicly doesent matter whitch fraction you will chose. That was a bit disapointment when I played it a second time. But overall amazing game with lot of very original quests and dialogs, amazing graphics, good combat system... It has everything I want from this kind of game and I really enyojed it. :)
