Decent, but flawed.
The story is great, and even though the graphics are a tad dated, they still hold up pretty well today. My biggest issues with it are that the menus freeze, I can't use my map because it stays static, and the same goes for the quest log. I'm sure there's quiet a bit I'm missing out on because I can't use those two things.

The piratey sequel to Risen
Risen 2: Dark Waters is the piratey sequel to Risen. Again, the environments are expansive and beautiful, and you get to explore a series of contrasting islands. The combat system is still difficult to get to grips with, but the sheer amount of content in this game makes it a recommended title if you enjoy RPGs. There is so much to do that you can easily sink 50+ hours into the game to complete the main quest and most of the side quests.

Streamlined, but in the wrong places
And I thought Risen 1's combat was bad. How come Gothic 2 still has the best combat of all of this dev's games? As soon as they discovered people play games with a mouse, they ditched the keyboard and completely forgot how to make combat rewarding.
