A mysterious volcanic island.
The heavy tremors on the island bode ill for its inhabitants. Ancient temples have risen from the ground recently, bizarre creatures are terrorizing the area. Fear and terror is spreading among the population.

The end of all hope?
A group of powerful men who call themselves "The Inquisitors" have taken it upon them-selves to put an end to these events. They send an expedition to this remote island, but a storm takes hold of the ship and destroys it at sea.

A hero will come.
As if by a miracle, you survive the shipwreck and are stranded on the volcanic island alone. You find yourself amidst a chaos of rebellion, tyranny, and mystic rituals. It is up to you to decide to which side the pendulum of fate will swing.

Overall, Risen is… fine. It’s a game that was influential and beloved in its time, but that time was long ago, and many other great games have taken its place since.

Risen is packed with content and if you can get past its blemishes there is a solid RPG here to last you at least 60 hours, but I feel a lot of today’s gamers won’t even get off the beach tutorial at the beginning of the game.

The long and short of it is that Risen is a fun action-adventure RPG. It is very rough around the edges, not to the extent of some other games in the genre that came out around the same time (looking at you, Two Worlds), but it has charm. If you’re a fan of Oblivion, or Skyrim, and want to see another game that has a similar style, this might be a good pickup.

The real Gothic 3

Very simply put - this game should have actually been called Gothic 3. Same style as the original Gothic 1-2 - love it!

All time classic

Gameplay: clunky in all ways. Writing: terrible. But somehow, it keeps you hooked up and has that good RPG feeling. Definitely worth trying!

Maybe my favourite game ever

I really loved this game. You can easily spend 30h+ in this world, searching for secret spots, fighting hostile creatures, just exploring the (aged but still beautiful looking) world or following the story. The story, combined with the atmosphere make this game feel authentic. Every character has his place, no character feels wrong in his place. I enyojed playing this game. And I am sure you will as well.
