After playing the base game and the 2130 DLC, I have to say I loved both. There is more depth in this game than it seems.
At first, it's all about the basic needs of towns. You struggle to make a profit that is big enough to run the much needed research.
Then, you start working on higher level needs, and with the rising number of vehicles, logistics becomes a more significant issue.
Then, as your towns grow into cities, and you extend to new regions, the size of your empire changes the whole game again.
As of 2.3, the current version, this game can be won and it is highly replayable. Watch some Let's Play's, and give it a try if you like what you see.
There are several negative reviews on this game. I personally don't understand them.
For me, this is the first industry building game since years that I keep playing. I have tried a lot of them but they all lack some part of the fun and I believe this game has it all!
Why?
- The graphics are gorgeous. This should not be important, but it is imo. This is why I no longer like to play games like open transport tycoon. I played the crap out of them in the 90's but now, I need more.
- The user interface is gorgeous. I am talking about the looks and the feel. It works so smoothly, it reacts smoothly. They even made things that need calculations so that they are calculated in the background while the user interface already shows. It then updates when the calculations are ready. This feels very professional.
- The user interface is handy. Everything works as I expect it to work. Yes, there are some things that might work better differently, but all in all, I think how it works already is very well thought out. You just know that the developer is playing his own game and is being critical onto his own developments.
But also:
- The game is not too complex but still has depth. It keeps a fun factor with a not too difficult learning curve. Everything is logical, yet you need to somewhat figure things out (which is fun).
- The game starts easy but gets more difficult when you expand. Your first game, you may wonder why you would ever want to build your own truck network, but at some point you'll understand it and next time you'll play better. This is a fun way to learn. Most games of this genre expect you to learn everything at once or you won't be able to play. This game gives you fun on any learned level.
The game is still in development, but I can already keep playing it for hours without noticing any problems with it. Still though, you know that the developer still has plans and you can't wait to see them.
Support this developer, he deserves it! He knows what he's doing!
There is something about setting up a production line, tweaking it, making sure it's smooth and efficient. To see that Green income coming in, just to spend it again on expanding more !
Whether you are the goal oriented type, going for the end goal of producing a Biofuel Car prototype.
Or you just enjoy the freedom of setting your own targets and challenges.
Rise of Industry offer all this in an enjoyable and interesting way.
I also like the fact you can set different difficulty aspects to suit your style and level.
There is also a sandbox mode with everything unlocked for a more relaxed approach or to fool around with different setups to your hearts desire.
RoI has a lot to offer as is. But there is more to come. I'm enjoying the current, while being hyped for "tommorrow" as well.
Between an interactive and communicative dev team, Regular updates and a clear road map,
RoI is evolivng into a great game. Rising to its spot being one of the leading titles in the genre.
Most of the not so positive reviews are five months old. The game has changed alot since then and in continuous growing.
If you are still in doubt or new to the genre, there is a demo version you can try before you make a well deserved purchase.
[INDEV] A colourful, simple-detail presentation makes this easy on the eyes while building an industry networked by its backbone of logistic support.
The gameplay is pretty simple; place a headquarters in a region of land of your choosing, and build a nest egg of industry to fuel the rest of your pursuits. The end-goal is to build a Car Prototype Factory; requiring a massive industry to draw components and resources from to produce an automobile in the semi-fictional early 20th century setting.
Products are made in cycles of days, 25, 40 etc. Finance info is divided into calender months of 30 days. The differing cycle times can create interesting ratios to satisfy production requirements, as truck transport time also plays a part in delivering material between factories. Managing the production and supply chain feels very satisfactory, certainly when things all start to flow together perfectly.
However, logistics and its management can be troublesome and often marred with perceived inconsistencies or outright illogical operation. Frequently factories will receive inequal portions of a supply even though they are the same distance from a warehouse with equal priority and quality urban roads. Truck pathing can occasionally wig out and fixate on taking a longer path despite a shorter, faster path existing. Route creation is very click-intensive, and occasionally will generate an in-game alert for an invalid path that doesn't exist, or for a valid path.
The technology UI is clean and has some functional quirks but its easy enough to get the hang of its flavour. Progressing through techs feels rewarding and provide a clear path to advancing to future goals and making major progress to refining and improving the industry giant.
It is well along in development, with a long time left before all its features are complete. Currently it stands on its own pretty well. If it looks interesting, keep an eye out for development updates and see where things wind up going.
This game is actually pretty fun, but it is quite slow. I do agree the dev should add more challenge to the game. The graphic is pretty and it works well in Linux
