Jesus blessed this grenade launcher

It's impressive from a mechanics perspective, and it was way ahead of it's time in many ways, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone but the hardcore FPS junkies. The low-level enemies are absurdly spongey even on medium difficulty and kill you in seconds. There is severe balancing issues, and it doesn't matter what framerate you run it at. For some reason the armored enemies are less tanky than the dudes without helmets I shoot directly in the face. In certain segments you will be hit by enemies you cannot even see. Enemies never miss a shot. As much as I love the attention to small details like the damage modeling and enemies reacting to being hit, the combat is not very fun. The movement also pales in comparison to the GOATs like Half Life, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, or Soldier of Fortune. Here you always seem to be getting caught on the geometry. Night Dive needs to remaster or remake this, because it deserves polishing.

Edgy story, good Ideas but weak shooter.

Unfortunately, Requiem avenging angel didn't stand the test of time: despite the good ideas and powers similar to its peers ( dark forces II comes to mind), the actual gameplay feels off, and not on par with today standards (or yesterday standards, to be frank). So, there is a reason why, in the end, this game remained an obscure and forgotten title among the FPS fans.

I really liked it.

i've never played a shooter with powers, its pretty cool, i really liked the gameplay but the story was pretty weak imo, i dont care a lot since ive played games like quake or doom and these games dont have like, a cinematic story. this game has some problems when playing on Linux, but it can run using Proton Experimental.

the good: got it for free

The bad: almost everythig else. The only reason it's not one star is that I got it for free. Funny thing is, I planned on buying it for a long time now, had a copy back in the day and never liked the game, wasn't fan of the mechanics, esthetics, its unforgiving nature, impossible aiming, terrible level design,... everything. Since then, I've reconsidered a lot of my positions and now like a few of the games I found really bad back when I was young, when the games industry still was still not consolidated, so everyone was realeasing their own ideas of what the next step in the evolution of gaming should look like. This was one of the seemingly dead branches until Deus Ex proved it to be very much the future, but 3DO produced (not created, they released their own stinker, Crusaders of Might and Magic, the very same year) a not-really-intelligent shooter rather than anything else. The game is still terrible as it was then. I would recommend waiting for another giveaway before trying it out if you never played it. One good thing I have to say about it is that GOG seems to have made it not crash every other second, so I ran it on a new computer with up to date software without a single crash for maybe 15 minutes and it could have probably ran for more, which is absolutely not what I remember my experience being in the 1999...
