Returning from war, you find your home village destroyed by monsters and your friends and family murdered. A rampage for answers and revenge ensues, leading you from your quaint island-town to vast underground cities, capital districts, and into the dark corners of the otherworld. Finally your quest has you trekking through a lost magic-tech civilization to set things right - the Sunken Land.

Doom but fantasy

Plays a lot like Doom but in a fantasy world. Interestingly enough it doesn't feel at all like Heretic. Rekkr world I think is much more low tech meets high tech where as Heretic is more medieval. The Engine is a bit more modernized however the controls are dated. If you have never played original Doom you might find this somewhat awkward. No mouse look and no jumping. You can cheat mouse look and jumping from console but be aware that jumping can break puzzles. Reduce jump height to reduce the chance of breaking puzzles. The world is very grim. Is a kind of prehistoric ice age meets magitek. Imagine Conan the Barbarian wielding a magical shotgun shooting magical robots. The monsters are very unique including for example floating eyeballs, or spitting monsters or even kind of magic turrets. The weapons are quite interesting and you have fist, shotgun, bow, staff and more. Some weapons use souls as ammo. The levels are very Doom like. Finds keys to progress, kill monsters and avoid dying. Level design is more limited and straightforward. You will not get lost as much and is easier to figure out how to progress. Overall is a nice game but I found it the gameplay too simplistic for me personally but you might enjoy it. If you enjoy Doom and fantasy or for example Heretic you gonna love this one.

I had fun

This is the only total conversion I've played, and I played this with a friend. If you've played any boomer shooter before, you'll know exactly what to expect here. But my friend and I had fun playing this.

Nice try, but ...

REKKR could be something along Hedon, Beyond Sunrise and other GZDoom-based shooters, but sadly it isnt able to fulfill its potential due to a very frustrating level design. It all starts nice and fun, but in the later episodes quickly devolves into movement-based plattforming under enemy fire over damage floor like acid or lava. I'm done "working" in games to achieve something, to practice a specific map section movement pattern over and over and over again. I can forgive the game its weird weapon selection, the slow projectiles (wasting a LOT of ammo trying to hit moving enemies) and the need for going melee against strong ranged enemies. But not the level design.
