this game although not better than the first on is still enjoyable....but....i can't get it to work on win 10.
so in its current state its a pass.
Get doom, blood, quake the offering or shadow warrior instead.
This is a classic FPS shooter from the 90's and one the best to start these types of games off, But despite a great main game, And some great and long dlc's, This game remaster has lots of bugs at times, And crashes at times are only too inconvenient, A complete incompetence bodging up a simple remaster, What ever bethesda touch, Always seem to screw it up with some annoying bugs and crashes, It's like their motto or something, Good game but stick with the original from id software and just mod it, It's alot simpler with the hassle with this version.
Original Quake 2 is a solid, even if mostly average across the board. While the original campaign is very good and memorable, mission packs are mostly boring, padded out and a waste of time. Enhanced Edition doesn't change this, and the general feel remains mostly the same.
The remaster implements a ton of new features and customizable options, which mostly are great. If you don't like updated graphics or other changes, you can turn them off, which is great. Most of the changes and content restoration is great, but with a few exceptions. Turns out, some of the cut stuff were cut - for a good reason, and restoring it is a bad idea. E.g. the berserker's 99% unavoidable jump attack is just awful and not having it in the game was a good call from the original developers. Most of the changes don't ruin the original experience, though, which is commendable.
A new mission pack, delivered by Machine Games, is pure rubbish, though. Bloated and padded, with interesting assets, but awful level design and pacing issues. It has the recent Wolfenstein badness smeared all over it, and shows a lack of understanding of principal design of Q2 core pillars. Plays more like a passion project from moddb, than a commercial project that went through internal review and approval process. I'd recommend to pass it entirely. It adds nothing to the experience, and drags the whole package down.
Id just know how to make it feel good to shoot stuff, but this game lacks some of the brilliance that doom and quake 1 had, and has a few mechanics I don't like.
