Worth the wait
I backed the game on Fig and have been waiting for its release since 2016, and I'm not disappointed. The platforming is a delight, the art direction is as quirky and charming as ever, and the music makes me wish I'd backed at a tier that got me the soundtrack. The previous game's less-useful powers have been replaced with new ones that are almost universally well-integrated into combat and platforming, and remain useful throughout. The writing is still on-point, and the game handles some heavy themes with a light hand. Level-wise, each new mind is about three times larger than the minds in the previous game, there are a lot more of them, and they're all fun to play throughout (no 'meat circus' slogs here). If you liked the first game, you should definitely put this one at the top of your wishlist.

I'll be direct. While the writing is good, the set pieces fun, and the overall quality high, Tim Shaefer has, yet again, padded out the end with unfair level design and tepid platforming. What starts as an enthralling and interesting narrative is weighed down by an anemic amount of content and the strange preoccupation double fine has with drawing out the lifespan of this series by making the final level needlessly and unfairly difficult. Buy on sale.

Not a game. An interactive movie.
As said in the title, this is really a long, mostly boring drawn-out interactive movie. A big step down from the first game. The majority of the gameplay is movie cut scenes and story padding. Unfortunately the story is nowhere near as interesting as Shady Pines and the Milkman Conspiracy. I'm a huge Psychonauts fan and I'm already bored with the game. It's a chore. Pros: same cast and voice actors + same style and feel of the 1st Cons: boring, drawn-out interactive movie "gameplay" + clunkier camera and fighting mechanics *The graphics and combat + camera operation of the first game are just as good or better than this sequel.
