I bought the game, because I was impressed by the backstory of the developer and got interesteted, after seeing some reviews.
I can say that I'm completely satisfied by this game.
It is as if one took this game out of the 90's, polished it and sells it now.
A nice oldschool shooter experience, that gets completed by several little perks like the skill system or the possibity to activate "pixelisation", to let it look like it really comes from the 90's.
Everyone who liked Hexen, Doom and Blood, should at least look at this game.
There isn't much to be said about Project Warlock that hasn't already been said, except they really should of built this in an idtech engine or the build engine just for optimization sakes.
-Now technical stuff - I a had a problem for the first few days where I had to reinstall the game everytime I booted it up.
But even with framerate drops being my only negative, it was the most enjoyable game experience I have had since the late 90's.
The main menu and first bossfight tracks are the best songs I heard in a game since Quake2. Well done !
So as a 90's fps veteran, I highly suggest buying this game.
Also are we really need a map editor and modding tools.
As a big fan of Doom, Hexen, Blood, and Duke i enjoyed this game. I think it is a fantastic love letter to those games while at the same time standing on its own feet. It has some mechanics and a killer soundtrack that make it stand out from the crowd.
Gameplay: More arcadey then Doom but not in a bad way. If you enjoy classic 90's FPS youll feel at home for the most part
-Guns all feel very nice with great sound and impactful shots.
-The run and walk speeds both feel balanced. Running at mach speed in open areas circle strafing is awesome
-Enemy projectiles are fun to doge both in the corridors and open areas.
-Levels are a nice mix of open and claustrophobic areas. I feel it shines in the open areas more so
- The upgrade system for guns and magic are enjoyable to use with a way to adapt to any play style though i do feel magic lacks a bit in some areas. Both are very fun to play with
- I really wish thier was a difficulty between normal and hardcore. Hardcore is basically ultra nightmare from Doom for Project Warlock
-Secrets are very rewarding to find
-Only a mini map is alright but i would like an overall map in game you can pull up
-Each episode takes place somewhere entirley different adding new enemies and variety
Graphics: Games has really nice artwork and a great look to it.
- The effect of the enemies being chipped away as you damage them is nicley done
- Atmospere and lighting is well done though i do think some areas are just a bit to dark
- If you like horror the game has some awesome nods to game and film that i wont spoil
- Each episodes theme is very well done in both enemy design and levels. From Egypt to the Arctic youll see alot
-Wont go above 1080p i wish they change this, though it looks fine on my 2k monitor
Sound: Soundtrack is killer. Literally every song is a banger and fun to play to
- Guns have impactful sounds
-Soundtrack kills
Tldr: Its alot of fun. I wish they add more lighting, above 1080p res, another difficulty level
I'm enjoying playing this game so far, glad its on GOG. I feel this game although has its own style, I feel at home with this game as I do wiith old DOOM.
You know this was actually a great game like as the description says in the likeness of doom, heretic and hexen, when you get into it, perks, weapons and upgrades and lots of secrets and some easter eggs if you look hard enough, and best of all mindless violence heck yeah!!! A worthy title in anyone's game library. will love to see more games from this developer.
