This one certainly brings back memories from the good old day. Good action and i also find it refreshing the way that both "normal" and "hard" difficulty uses a kind of permadeath if you run out of lives.
I've just played about 2 hours of the game so far and I'm in love with the overall feel of the game. The spells, magic, and mana give this game a Hexen type feel to the game. The grunting and suddle motherf*cker voice lines give it a Duke Nukem feeling. For the hacking and slashing, mixed with a bit of fire and juicy bloody particles, give it a Blood like gameplay. Finally, the explosions, zombies, powerful badass guns with different upgrades make it feel like the new Doom (2016), while still keeping that nostalgic classic Doom with a hint of Quake (1996) lurking through the cracks. This game definitely has a lot of potential and I can see it becoming another great instant classic that will maybe sit along side the classics one day.
I just finished the first episode of the game and I'm super hyped to play the rest. The weapons (except the dagger) are fun to use so far, the gameplay is really fast and has a great soundtrack. This game brings back the first doom or hexen. If you liked 90th shooter you need to play this.
This game runs like turdulent garbage for what it looks like. On the second level, I'm getting under 50 fps with graphics set to low and all special effects disabled.
System specs:
- AMD 3950X
- AMD RX 5700
- 3440x1440 @ 144hz display
Artwork: beautiful
Soundtrack: amazing
Nostalgic fidelity: check
Gameplay: put the annoying bugs and lags aside then it's ok. Some boss battles are more like war of attrition with enemies that are just bullet sponges.
