Final act of this game is great, mostly because then prior frustrating combat sections become easy then. Everything before third act besides combat is also great.
Luckily final act is very well executed and ends this game on high note.
And graphics (mostly art style) has aged surprisingly well. Story also is nice and fun.
Take a good hard look where ubisoft came from. This game was created when they still had amazing devs, like the ones that now created Expedition 33. This game back in it's day and the two that followed were the PEAK of action advanture games. While today they may be a bit janky they are a testament of what triple A was capable when good developers were valued and allowed to CREATE, not restricted by politics and marketing/microtransaction bs.
It's so rare nowdays that I feel the same playing a game as I did with the POP trilogy. Funny enough Expedition 33 was one of those very rare games. I'm scared one day we'll lose these amazing devs and all we'll have left to play is the slop you see nowadays. Hopefully not.
Do yourself a favor and play all 3 games.
First, and maybe the best installment in the excellent trilogy. I like to view them as a whole. Each part has its own "uniqueness", but they are all part of a amazing puzzle.
If you're into this kind of games, don't miss it, it's one of the best in the genre.
Too bad everything went terribly downhill for the prince after the trilogy...
This is one of the best games that I have ever played.
Awesome climbing, good combat, good ambient and good story.
It's a perfect transtion from 2D Prince of Persia to 3D with almost no sacrifices, everything is better.
This game is not my favorite Prince of Persia game, but is the one that defines the formula from this epic saga.
‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ was one those games that caught my interest when it first came out, but I ended up not getting. After finishing ‘The Making of Karateka’ not long ago, my interest in ‘TSoT’ was rekindled as it was the most recent ‘PoP’ title that was designed by Jordan Mechner himself.
Over 20 years later, the 3D platforming puzzles in ‘TSoT’ hold up very well. They are easily the best part of this game and kept me playing in spite of the game’s flaws. They would be even more fun to solve if it weren’t for tank controls and the awkward, restrictive camera positions. Although I could move the camera around, I felt like I was regularly fighting the default placements, and could rarely find an angle that was to my liking.
Fighting waves of enemies while also fighting the camera positioning also made combat not very enjoyable. Fighting sequences often felt too long, and only delayed me from getting to the next block of platforming puzzles. Limited fighting movesets also made fighting rather repetitive and dull.
I needed to make a couple of tweaks to ‘TSoT’ in order to run it in widescreen resolution and to fix the fog effects. Given the game’s solid foundation, but dated technical backbone and janky combat, I could see why Ubisoft saw ‘TSoT’ fit for a remake. But until the remake gets released, the original ‘TSoT’ is still a worthwhile game to check out…flaws and all.
