I was always a bit into these games. Making a city, getting trade. Maybe some skirmish too but that's not the very important part.
This one... It just felt way too complex but not in a way you would have expected. The broad aspect of this game is probably mainly the learning curve. I will be honest here: I've tried playing this game in past. My last attempt took me 1,5 hours. While that I finished two of the tutorial scenarios. Call me slow but I found the mechanics way too... slow too.
Then I tried to play a quick free play game so only that I tried it all on myself (just the very basics). I just didn't feel very comfortable using the control panel. If you wanna sail, you have to achieve certain steps at first (buy a ship, hire a captain etc.), but somehow... Everything you buy/sell/hire etc. it feels that you have no control over it. You just buy something and then you don't know where it is, how to use it.
I really felt like when I was playing OpenTTD, already progressed into a larger map with broad network of tracks and trains. At such stage the game was absolutely unmanageable, so it felt to me in PR2. Hard to control. Control buttons and the control mechanism is not the way I would have expected to be and behave.
I usually don't care about graphics in 2000+ games once the game supports either satisfying resolution (say 900p and more) or widescreen option at 768p. This is not a case of PR2 too.
I just can't recommend it. This game doesn't provide a good flow, there are better choices in this genre and even this style. PR1 seems to be a better option.
