Statement "old-school" is over used in our times, many games/products are advertised as "old-school" to mislead people in buying them. Beautiful graphics with thematic music and compelling story! I can only recommend it, especially to people who loved Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Torment etc.
Owner of White march expansion pass and free dlc (and this game, duh), I must say this game is awesome rpg worth your time. Some say it's easy, but that it's one of it's charm, it has multiple dificully modes, so you will find your own soon enough. Lovely graphics, lovely story and most loveliest classes will get you hooked until the end - but it is easy, duh.
This game is as close to perfect as a thing can be. I loved every second of it and I cannot wait to get time for a second playthrough. There were a couple awkward bits with the combat, but they're minor niggles at best, and the rest of the game is polished and well made enough to overshadow a slight flaw. The story was gripping and well written, the companions were all interesting and enjoyable to get to know, even when they''re being terrible (you'll know who I'm talking about in short order). The classes are all unique and interesting, each one playing in very distinct ways, all feeling different but not so dissparate that going from one to another in combat feels awkward.
The world feels vast and well thought out, with so much lore and mythology and a history that feels real and deep. This game is definitely at the top of my list as of now, and I'm sure the sequal will join it in short order.
I have been playing for 6 hours now, and the feeling is exactly the same as the one I felt when I tried Baldur's gate for the first time. Everything in this game is well achieved, from the interface to the music, the graphics to the ambiant sound. It has this immersive "book in which you are the hero" feeling. There is indeed a lot of text, with a top notch writing. This game has been made with passion, for the players, and you feel it.
The only negative point I can find just now is that it doesn't invent anything. This is a top down role playing game revamp, with new story, new world and new engine. But If you liked the behemots of the genre, and are avid to explore some new place, do not hesitate. It is their rightfull child.
Game of the year it is
