Immerse yourself in Ancient Egypt from the age of the great pyramids to the final years of the New Kingdom. Govern all aspects of the exotic Egyptian, culture from religion to trading with distant cities. Cultivate vast farms in the Nile valley and discover the important role this river, with its unpredictable floods, played in the life of the Egyptians. Stone by stone, erect giant monuments - from the Sphinx, to the lighthouse and library of Alexandria.
Manage your city poorly and you shall watch it burn, be pillaged or collapse in economic ruin. Manage it well and ultimately the greatest Egyptian structures will be built in your honor. Your rule will span generations, until your dynasty, your royal bloodline produces a Pharaoh!
Pharaoh includes many features never before seen in a city building game, such as a farming model based on the flooding of the Nile, naval warfare, giant monuments that are assembled over time, unique dynastic progression, and variable difficulty levels. This a massively addictive, huge, but most importantly fun game that is a great choice for anyone looking for a solid city builder title, or an intellectual challenge.

Superb, now and upon release. The countless positive reviews exist exactly because this game is easily 100 hours of your life -and memorable hours -long after you've moved away to other titles.
Lacks the magnificent colour palette and camp voice-overs of Zeus, arguably the best Impressions title, but still Ptah after all these years.
I've been playing this game since 2000, first on CD, now on GOG. It's my go-to game...my favorite...the best! City building and management, gods, battles, etc. -- this game has it all.
The missions are great, but making my own missions is the best. I can make them as challenging or as easy as I like. Sometimes I just want to create the perfect peaceful city to please my OCD, but other times I want more activity and challenges in the form of plagues and military strikes. I love all of these games from Impressions Games (Emperor, Zeus/Poseidon, Caesar, etc.), but this one is my favorite. It's easy to zone out on the game and play it for hours on end. I'll bring th game up every year and play it for a few months and then put it away until the next year...or maybe sooner.
I loved playing this way back when and I still do. I actually have the original disks but for $5, I'd rather just buy it than mess with virtual machines, etc since the old executables are not Windows 7 compatible.
This game will keep you busy for a long, long time.
The only reason I gave this 4/5 stars is because there are some glitch issues (freezes when tabbed out, video cut-scenes don't play). You can play around them, I just want to hold GOG to a higher standard. I think these issues that seem to stem from multi-core processors are something that could be fixed prior to release.
I don't know if it's because of the nostalgia but this game still get to me anytime, as soon as I launch it I can't stop thinking that it never gets old, it's really a resonnable price for the AMAZING time you can spend in this game.
Ah seeing those guys moving around my city, never gets old.
This one and Ceaser III was my favourite games back then... It's like Happy Farm with no transactions. And it had a splendid pirate dub, I'm afraid this version has not hence it wouldn't be that nostalgic.
It's beautiful, it's strict. Not so much of the city-building as the path-managing. The main goal is to set different workers on patrol routes so they cover city the most efficiently.
But, you know, there's something wonderful in watching a city grow. And pyramids! Hell yeah! When you spend hell o' tonn of resources on this useless tombs you feel like a real pharaoh.
